[WTS/For sale] IBM model F 122
I need to get a new PC, so I'm forced to sell something. Unfortunately my most expensive keyboards are the only ones that can do the job and being the F 122 my least favourite (I still love it), it must go. Let's talk about the keyboard: by itself is in very good state of conservation, the plastic c...

Re: Keyboard advice
Welcome. Depends on your taste and what kind of work you do with your keyboard. If you use your keyboard for games you should point to a smoother linear keyboard as far as the one you have doesn't make you feel comfortable. There are quite a buch of smoother MX based switches with contactless sensin...

Re: Using a type f terminal keyboard on an XT (5160)
You can wire a Soarer's keyboard converter, then a USB to XT converter from any source. As far as you DIY them, the process is quite cheap.

Welcome to Deskthority :D At first, something like your endgame keyboard is not as easy to define if you are just discovering what you like more, but as you seem to like a lot buckling springs, you might want to get an IBM model F with a more standard layout, like a 4704 or a battleship (which tends...

Re: How do I figure out a Keyboards Scan Codes?
Hi. You actually need a digital analyzer more than an oscilloscope. Despite some protocols can be very weird and also have weird limitations, you will always have a VCC pin, a GND pin and at least one data pin, often a clock pin too. What you need to do here is power the keyboard and connect your lo...

Hello guys, does somebody know more about that keyboard: Link to images: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ia1LUvVvOC2ZRMNpcv29gt_Qv930u-Ww?usp=sharing What's that switch? From my understanding it's some kind of alps or alps clone. It has a black slider and feels like a pretty light tactile r...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
There were some keyboards from Adesso in the "ergonomic" shape that had Alps clone switches. There was someone on ebay that was selling them a couple weeks back and his ad said something like, "Looks like white Alps, but can't confirm," which, of course, is code for, "They're not Alps switches." Lo...

You can fill some parts of the keyboard with epoxy putty, always being sure it will still close, but be aware that this may affect the sound. Also you can put some long metal pieces in between. If you can upload some pictures of the insides of the case I would glady advise you as better as I can.

Aaaaand… still another thread reporting IBM problems. Apparently IBM stuff’s reputation of being high quality, world class, premium equipment does not suffer from all the flaws. Linear switches in a keyboard that was found lying outside a textile factory. The keyboard appears to have been part of a computerised weaving machine, and I can't find anything about the switches that it uses. Has anyone seen them before? They've got a pretty short travel, are fairly smooth, and t...

Hello guys. I developed an interest in obscure IBM switches a while ago and today I was able to find some wicked stuff from the same dude who designed both beamspring switches and buckling spring switches, behold: High profile buckling spring prototype: https://patents.google.com/patent/US3699296A/e...

I wonder if models C through E were botched attempts at cheaper variants til they landed on the buckling spring. Maybe foam an foil? poor performing leaf spring? Who knows what else. Perhaps the switches from the PC Jr were derived from one of these failed attempts. Behold this thing patented a yea...

Just to confirm, take this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/VT8AAOSw4xxbQuZU/s-l1600.jpg We're right about VCC and GND. is not so odd to read something between VCC and the rest of the pins if you have certain components in the middle, but not the most normal thing. I was able to retrobrite them in 10% hydrogen peroxide and they look much, much better. No need to paint. I'm happy it worked. The same happened with my model F XT. I guess the springs just get old or fatigued and start failing. Unfortunately I'm not even close of your city We'll see latter.
