I think the model f 122 may just be my favorite keyboard overall.
Been using one all week, and dude I see why these are generally the most expensive of the more common models. The same awesome model f key feel and sound, a nearly modern layout(i suspect imb's engineers took a que from this when the M was made), and has dedicated nav and num cluster. Not to mention...

woah wait so there exist xt scancode f122 :O dude thats crazy! I hope you have fun with that beautiful beast! Ive had an f122 for a few days now, its so much like the current unicomp 122 my GF uses these things take almost no time to get used to layout-wise compared to modern boards I think they may...

Skaters converter vs xwhatsit for model f.
I've received recently learned that model fs other than the xt can be used with Ether one, but other than using soares converter with my xt and xwhatsit with my beamspring I don't know much about them or which is better for an AT/122 key.

Mechanical boards that are/were made /marked towards *nix?
I know pretty much any modern(used) board will work on pretty much any modern os, but most assume windows as the default os(which I mean I get why). So if I can I'm trying to find as many that market towards *nix users. Off the top of my head I can really only think of the Hhkb and unicomp's sun Uni...

Re: Modern Beamspring? - The Silo Beam Switch
Hall effect and not capacitive sense? :-( Although a hall sensor is a discrete component that costs money and needs space, a pair of capacitive pads is so large that you would very get limited in the number of alternative key placements you could cramp into a board. Key Tronic managed to put both I...

I'm actually testing out a similar set up during these weeks (an SSK with a numpad on the left side)... and it's not going too well. I intend to make a lengthy post about it this weekend. did ibm make a stand alone model m numpad or you using a different one? I'm using an M50 macropad in lieu of an...

Re: Modern Beamspring? - The Silo Beam Switch
The sound video was also interesting. It was actually very easy to tell which of the four switches was the new Silo switch without actually reading the description since plate spring-like switches have such a beautifully distinct sound. Agreed, it gives me hope that they sound so much like my 6850....

Exciting!!! And thanks XMIT for sharing a bit of background too - I love the thought of the Kaihua CEO excitedly clicking a beamspring switch tester between his fingers and getting proper nerdy with you at CES. Re: Resources /guides for beamspring maintenance? Are there any?
Yeah, I would suggest a full restoration too. There are many good beamspring restoration logs on Deskthority. Just do a search. The main things you need to do are remove rust and replace the foam which has usually turned into a sticky tar. One suggestion that I would add is to be careful removing ru...

Re: Resources /guides for beamspring maintenance? Are there any?
Restoration is more important. Check the foam, remove and wipe down the sense PCB with alcohol, open and clean any finicky switches, tune the controller, etc. Once it's restored, the only maintenance you really need is some use parts like a set of selectric caps for daily so you don't use up the or...

Also, I can’t imagine a world where I would NOT buy one of these, although I’d probably hold off for a TKL model. At a $100 price point it seems like these boards are targeting not just enthusiasts, but every Fortnite-playing 12-year-old could be getting one of these for Christmas! ...Which would b...

beamspring vs capacitive buckling spring, my take on it.
As a long time lover of all keyboards ibm, I've been wanting to be able to do this for a long long time so now after a few days with it I think I know just how i feel about the beamspring boards. Since model Fs are *much* easier to come by, and so far have been the best switches ive used, I'll be us...

Thats a beautiful board, darkcruix. " the Model F is just different - the typing satisfaction is equal." I could not agree with this more if I tried, nail on the head right there. the F is just so nice and thocky and bangy and loud and yarg, but beamsprings like a floaty cloud with a quck flip of ta...

Re: When you finally reach endgame.
Just like Model F keyboards, beamspring keyboards have a varying amount of ping depending on the the amount of use and the environment it was kept in. I have a beamspring keyboard that pings quite a bit (it has a bubbly sound) that gives each one a bit of charm and character. Mine has no ping at al...

Resources /guides for beamspring maintenance? Are there any?
Got one recently and I want to make sure to take good care of it. Being roughly 40 years old there's already like 3 keys that take mirginally more force to push down (but still work perfectly even in rapid fire I've tested multiple times ). So I wanna prolong it and take care of it like the (relativ...

I'll just quote the conversation I had just the other day with tron on GH, to answer what I mean by "I don't understand" The height, the sound, the layout, the availability, the overall hype surrounding them, and the elitism it suggests. And each alone would be okay if it wasn't for all the other o...

I'm guessing there weren't a ton made, but i'm still curious and am trying to learn as much about the first generation of computer keyboards as I can.
