Hi Matt3o,
could you please tell a bit more if there have been changes/fixes and if yes - what and where?

Re: Angled stem keycaps vs straight keycaps

Oh and one thing, I hadn't mentioned is key travel. On (mechanical) typewriters key travel was a lot longer, so the staggered arrangement was also necessary to give the fingers enough space for that long travel without hitting the keys in the next lower row. That is obviously not such an issue with ...

Re: Angled stem keycaps vs straight keycaps

If you would try both versions, you would probably notice, that it makes ergonomic sense to have the rows above the home row sit higher and the lower ones lower. For typewriters this was more important, because you had to hit the keys so much harder compared to computer keyboards. But still - human ...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

This button is connected to the long weird feet under the keyboard. On my keyboard one of the feet wiggles, when I press it. Either something is stuck or I don't press hard enough. I'll find out, when I have the time to open and clean it. An ingenious mechanism to lower the feet without turning ove...

Re: What do you think about this keyboard?

.... The T-shaped cursor keys are laid out adjusted to the different lengths of the index, middle and ring fingers when they are resting on the three columns. With the middle finger being longer, its most natural resting-position lies in-between the Up and Down keys — it being just as economical to...

Re: What do you think about this keyboard?

I like the 2u vertical enter a lot. And moving it one row down - compared to the XT layout - makes ergonomic sense and looks retro-beamspring-cool. Small Shifts also look good and one isn't dependent on sometimes annoying stabilizers. I - like most people - manage to hit the keys on a Model F XT, wh...

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!

The creaking comes from the spring rubbing against the peg in the bottom part, onto which the spring is stuck. A design flaw, that affects more or less every mx style switch. Thankfully it's easily solved with putting lube in this place.

But please think carefully before painting it, because the original paint is in quite good condition and - unless done very professionally - a repainted keyboard can become a very sticky, unpleasant affair. Decision Data terminal keyboard (IBM 5251 clone?)

Recently I bought a "Decision Data" terminal keyboard for the following reasons: - I like everything, with my favourite XT layout - The keyscaps are very precise copies of the ones from the IBM 5251 - The brownish colour of the keycaps looked very "70s" dd-01.jpg Well, the last reason was "dropped",...

Re: Post the ugliest keyboards you've seen!

I think the key shape is not the main problem. If you hit the keys in the middle, it doesn't really matter, if there are corners or not. But the big problem for touch typists is, that the offset between row 2 and 3 is wrong (0.5u instead of 0.25). So you would have to relearn the number and "qwerty"...

Re: Finally a proper case for the Vortex ViBE

You’re probably referring to the limited kits, that are currently available on drop ("TKL", "65 %", "1800"). My kits are from the two original "drops", that had a lot more options like "Extra Mods", "International", the "Triumph" colour, and so on. (BTW: There is a new drop with the full variety in ...

to all the people who are using keyboards that sit high off the table, don't you worry about rsi? your wrists will be at quite an angle to use them. you maybe fine for 6 months, a year or two, but it catches up with you, and then it doesn't want to leave you The simple answer, that no one wants to ...

Shame y and z are on the wrong position =) On the beige one, yes. The too boldly printed legends (from round 1) would stand out too much in these positions. As you can see in the last pictures of the board with the Triumph mods - by now I've found one international kit with decently printed legends...

Re: suggestions for /dev/tty2 ?

Just for the record: I don't want to add more and more keys, but instead would actually prefer smaller kits in general. Even, if it would cost the same for fewer keys in the end. The growing mountain of unnecessary R0 keys in my cupboard is hurting my environmental conscience a bit by now. ;) I woul...
