Sorry, wasn't meant to be sarcastic, I was honestly interested. I remember when I bought my first computer system. I actually went to a retail store. I wanted to upgrade the basic system to a total of 640 kB of RAM with an AST "six pack". That's 640 KILOBYTES, NOT megabytes or Gigabytes. The sales g...

Why do you need 64GB RAM?wobbled wrote: ↑Definitely stick with thinkpads, they're the best alternatives for sure.
I'm currently saving up for a Thinkpad P50 with a 4k screen, 64GB RAM, and Hyperthreaded quad core i7. Pretty beastly machine but they're by no means cheap.

Have you looked at the MS Surface Book? The Dell XPS 13 does look good. It will be interesting to see if they have solved the coil whine problem in the latest versions of this product. Yeah, I took the Book into account... but honestly, I don't like it because it's ugly. And thick. Maybe next versi...

Ah, nice to hear someone liked to learn german :) I am really trying to like the Surface Pro 4. 3:2 aspect ratio is great... yet I am afraid I couldn't handle the tablet style well enough while travelling. Although a tablet is hugely practical when learning on a small table (since you can detach the...

Thanks for the X1 Carbon recommendation. I was put off from Lenovo due to very bad experiences in my circly of friends (my girlfriends 17" is just fallin apart...), but I will take a closer look, since I just realised that they might have get rid of the bad quality, PWM-flickering, way to dark displ...

Alternatives to dissapointed Mac users
Hey, I really wanted to upgrade, but am quite dissapointed by the new Macbook selection. So, incidentially there are a few reasons for me to go with a Windows-machine: 1) Need SVN, which sucks on Mac somehow 2) Need Simulink and Matlab, which sucks on the mac too in terms of usability 3) Unfortunate...

I had good experiences with them. The last one: I moved and forgot to tell them that I changed my address. The package (those Topre PBT bars that took weeks) arrived, I wasn't there, got send back. Massdrop contacted me - I offered to pay the new shipping. But they just send it to my new address for...

My iPhone 6 just recently bent through normal use. ... define "normal use" ... If it's really "normal use" chances are good that you're still within the 24 months of Gewährleistung and you can return it to the merchant. It was in the front pocket of my trousers and it bit by bit bend. Unfortunately...

Will we ever reach a tipping point in which the consumers are not willing to pay the price premium for Apple devices? Personally, I have. But I am not the typical consumer, so I don't expect a revolution. Maybe the developer crowd will start moving away, who knows. They have reached the point for m...

Protective case for 60% keyboards/HHKB
Hey, this question has probably been asked a hundred times, but I would like to refresh the interest. Are there any good cases for travelling with a 60% keyboard? I am not looking for a soft pouch or something, rather something with a hard shell body. Like these soft cases you get for all kind of el...

Mines did also on 55g. Moved to 45g which are quite soft (you may untentionally be pressing a key if you rest your fingers on the keyboard which hardly will happen on a 55g). Are there different 45g Topre switches? One thing I like about the HHKB switches is, that I CAN rest my fingers on them - wh...

Thanks, happy to hear thatXMIT wrote: ↑ Sure, the two are the same in value, but one is still a scalar and one is still a vector. It just so happens that when the force and distance are in the same direction, the magnitude of the torque vector is exactly the work scalar.

Thanks guys! Did a keyboard ever disappoint you? Yeah, a Pok3r with clear switches. Not the fault of the Pok3r - it was because of the switches. They were that great from the overall conception, the bump was great and everything, BUT the scratchiness and friction was just horrible! Wasn't useable f...

This is force dot distance, not just force times distance. Two vectors yielding a scalar. Yes, but since in this case the force only acts (or whatever to say in english, which wasn't my best subject in school) in the direction of the travel (you could say because it is a one-dimensional view only t...

Not sure if you've used Topre, but they do not require bottoming out. For contact switches I have a second measurement "Actuation Force". Which while interesting, isn't super accurate because no one stops perfectly at actuation. Once I start measuring Cherry switches, you'll see this in those graph...

Nice idea, and very cool that you actually tested stuff with a force gauge! If I may add one thing: although they have the same dimension/unit, what you are calculating though multiplying force times distance is work, not torque. Torque and work have this relationship: W = T*phi, where phi is an ang...
