In real life engineers use Matlab, or Mathematica or Maple or some custom thing written in Python using NumPy or in Fortran. Once you get to college the calculator usually becomes a toy. I am an aerospace engineer in the making - I use the Casio fx991DE X, many use the Casio fx991ES plus, since the...

Yesterday I installed the hypersphere rings and lubed the keyboard with Krytox thick mix from techkeys. The sound is quite amazing now! It is about as loud as my macbooks chiclet keyboard, but with a completely different pitch, much darker. The upwards clack is completely gone. As I upgraded the Pro...

Great! Exactly what I opted for now and will try asap :D If you lube, i used not more than the sliders bottom nose is for each slider-side. I don't know what you mean yet, but I will find out. My plan was to lub just veeery thin with a small brush, so that there is barely something on the surface o...

Let's put it this way: the layout of a 60% keyboard is always a compromise. In my experience with every 60% that you didn't build and programmed yourself you will have to rethink and relearn some things. You have to decide for you if the hassle is worth it - I personally don't use function keys or t...

If you would like to continue using caps as backspace, the HHKB is not an option I am afraid - you would loose the control key. But since the backspace position above the enter key is far superior to the usual position, this might not be that bad. Of course you could remap one alt key with ctrl, but...

Mmh, awkward. Why does the hasu bluetooth controller need so much energy then? The hub is out of the system with this. It shouldn't use much more than my Pro BT controller and Pro BT lasts for months with 2 AA batteries. The Pro BT not even uses low energy bluetooth as far as I can tell. Maybe there...

I have no idea. That stupid USB hubs are useless anyway, I can't even plug a USB pen drive into it. What was going on in PFU's mind when they designed this? What a bummer that it renders the HHKB useless in this context. I'd love to get HHKB working with the iPad. Easiest way without buying the Pro...

The USB hub shouldn't draw power when it's not being used, should he? A possible other explanation is, that the capacitive matrix of the HHKB requires a constant current, to recognise any possible keystrokes. That would explain the low battery life with the hasu bluetooth controller (which doesn't f...

Mine was well packed too, but is damaged anyway... it is scratched and it's kinda annoying, since it is where my wrist lays and it is also eye-catching. I guess someone with experience in wood could just take a oily cloth and make it "vanish" (altough it is noticeably deep, so you would feel it), bu...

I used to use IJKL for arrow keys too, until I discovered the features of the OS. C-k deletes the whole line after the cursor, but is intelligent, it also deletes a whole sentence. So C-ak is super useful - jump on first letter of the line and delete the whole line. Which works system-wide, unlike v...

I switched to a HHKB and really like the layout. The backspace position is great - although you have to get a bit training if you are using other keyboard to, to not just hit enter when trying to correct a error. Especially annoying while using text messengers. I trained myself to use my little fing...

To go totally OT: there are of course high end production facilities in China. There are building planes, jet engines and stuff too. It's just: they can ALSO do the cheap stuff very... cheap and with high production numbers and if you only pay for cheap you only get cheap, so that's where that cheap...

After reading this thread: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=78226.0 I decided I'll give it some time. As I said it's 99% perfect and I probably would ruin it, trying to improve it. That happened to me so many times now - I always try to get the perfect thing and end up overdoing it, because it a...

On the HHKB version it would be a great option to put the USB-cable where the battery port is on the HHKB Pro BT! I dislike it, when cases are to high. Usually you take it with you in a messenger or backpack and there the height/thickness is the problem, not the length or width. So it would be great...

Alright, thank you very much! I will give it some time and it is not that noticeable while typing anyway. If at all. Funny enough, the stabilizers are the smoothes and best sounding parts on the keyboard. I will give it some time and anyway as I said, I dislike the idea of disassembling a new keyboa...

Break-in period for HHKB?
Hey, I clearly remember people saying, a HHKB feels like someone meltet butter over it. This isn't the case with my one. Although most keys are very smooth and way smoother than Cherry switches, there certainly is some scratchiness to them. Especially with some and when you hit them at an angle. Is ...
