Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
latching switches are super cool. I don't think any of the standard toggles should be a think on a modern 101+ key keyboard but that doesn't stop latching switches from being really cool. Looking forward to seeing more pictures

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
What a nice looking board. The stem colour looks off to me, as does the mount on the slider. Are you able to get more detailed pictures of that switch? If my spider senses are right that might be a grey GI SKCC switch. If it is that would explain why it has what appear to be non-APLS made caps. My g...

Swintec 8014 typewriter [SMK made clones of Mitsumi type 1]
Picked up this typewriter today. I could see in the listing that 3 switches were broken, but I did not recognize them so I figured I would pick it up and take a look. http://i.imgur.com/PtwOnRC.jpg This is a picture from the listing. The actual machine isn't especially remarkable in my opinion but i...

that is a nice colourway, shame it is likely pad printed (I think most of the black ones are)

A lot of shipping options are currently unavailable from Japanese proxies for reasons I don't understand but are related to corona so depending on how it shakes out some of the cheapest options aren't available presently and the next best thing is sometimes the quick option.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I think most likely the candle wax, which was known for months now , is the only thing that actually makes the switch smooth in the end. Has anyone tried to "wax-boil" step without the cleaning first? I have a feeling that it will have the same result. >which was known for months now IIRC this is a...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I have some NOS white alps that I could test against, but I am somehow in the position of only having NOS white alps, so I can provide the benchmark, but nothing else. I don't have any NOS or near-NOS examples that I could test against with other alps types though except for SKCC greens. Deformation...

Honestly, something closer to the modern case that the F77 uses would be fine.

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
zrrion if you'd like to facilitate the ability to easily create plates and PCBs for various layouts as you mentioned, that would be great but I don't know if the demand for beam springs in various additional layouts would warrant the effort. I would absolutely be open to collaboration in this respe...

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
I put this in the form but I'll put it here as well, standard ANSI bottom row is very unappealing and I would much rather see it use something like tsangan or WKL, the latter of which could be achieved with blockers. Additionally a split right shift would be very nice and would alleviate any possibi...

I've been eyeing that seller for a bit based on how interesting the boards are case/layout wise. Good to know there might be some trickery afoot. I don't plan to keep MX blacks in anything I buy if I plan to use it so switch swapping isn't exactly the end of the world for me I suppose. Still good to...

Re: Fixing The Model F's (XT/AT) Spacebar Stabilizer Design Flaw
Little bump here, but I have successfully modified my XT with the help of this thread, although the method described here is slightly different from the ideal method. I found that any modification of the hooks on the space bar results in a space bar that will come off too easily. The safer method is...

springboarding off of that question, the selectric 3 had different keycaps from previous selectrics and that style seems to have set the standard for IBM going forward, was accommodation for that key top style a serious consideration when designing switches?

Re: Replacement Foam Mat for IBM Model F Keyboards?
I need to test them out still, but I am working on individual foam gaskets for each barrel. They should have the advantage of being layout agnostic so that you could make a lot of them and then be good for any F that you happen to get. I'm waiting on getting them from the friend who cut them but I'l...

I've heard that loom bands are a decent alternative to floss mod. Haven't tried it myself but as I understand if it's similar to the foam plug method a few folks have used (and at&t patented)

Title, not sure what market for these is so shoot me a price and we can work something out. I'm always open for full or partial trade as well.
Did not get one from a member but did manage to get one for ~75 before shipping online.

Would you be willing to share the model? This would be very useful for a wheel writer mod where the space bar is in a different place, or for other assorted buckling spring space bar issues.anthonymak wrote: ↑16 May 2021, 17:50resize the ring for tightness. use a dap of glue to keep it in place.

Re: Beamspring daily drivers?
Is the superior key feel worth the loss in flexibility? Whether the key feel is even better or not is subjective. The difference in feel (good or bad) isn't worth the difference in price IMO. Depending on which beamer you get you might end up with a fairly reasonable layout and the difference betwe...

Re: ALPS double action switches [SKCPKB and SKCLKB]
SKCPKB is so uniquely horrid. It is my most hated switch. It feels like pressing a key through lumpy old pudding. This is a problem with SKCP's design, it bottoms out on the plate spring, which can result in the plate spring becoming deformed. SKFF doesn't have this issue as the bottom out doesn't ...

ALPS double action switches [SKCPKB and SKCLKB]
https://i.imgur.com/wJGMk5D.jpg Here we have some double action switches from a Cannon AP350. Not sure why alps used both kinds of double action switches in the same typewriter but whatever, just means I don't have to buy 2 machines to get these. They're both neat switches too. SKCPKB is the long o...
