IBM Model F122 Case Repair: Using A M122 Case

The PVC plastics used in the Model F122 case are notoriously brittle. They do not stand up to the weight of a ten pound or 4 kilogram keyboard. One false move and the top case is cracked. F122s are decently rare and finding replacement top cases is quite difficult. Fortunately, we have an ace in the...

Re: IBM and the Ship of Theseus

The point of the "Ship of Theseus" thought experiment is that the notion of authenticity is entirely arbitrary and in the eye of the beholder. So, the answer is up to you.

Definitely not an F122. My guess is a Memorex Telex rubber dome board.

Re: 5000 AZERTY Keyboards NOS

I reached my keyboard inventory limit this weekend and have literally nowhere else to put things, apologies for being unable to do more. 5000 keyboards is a lot of keyboards. The seller says these are on 12 pallets? That is 416 keyboards per pallet. These pallets will have to be at least 2m tall to ...

US-side $500 can get you cleaned, converted with new foam, and shipped I cannot match that. A foam mod is a major undertaking, about a four hour job, assuming the foam has already been procured. But I can throw in a free Soarer's Converter for the next two boards that go to US buyers. Please be sur...

Five F122s still for sale here! 500 USD shipped isn’t so bad when you consider that shipping to the UK or EU costs about 100 USD and is included!

Re: Graphite membrane trace fix

Graphite works okay. I’ve had better luck using silver conductive paste to do membrane repair. It comes in a tiny syringe but it’s not terribly expensive. For membrane substrate repair e.g. torn membrane, archival quality packing tape does a pretty good job. Glad you got it fixed!

But dehydrator does not make sense for people who clean their keyboards from time to time. It has saved me quite a lot of effort already. One may already be present in the kitchen. There was a time when these were a common $5 thrift store item. Trace amounts of water will evaporated from a keycap v...

Re: Ultrasonic Key Cap Cleaning - 2021 Edition

I just dump them from the cleaner on a piece of cloth and start putting them directly onto the keyboard blowing on the underside of each cap to get any bigger water droplets out. They will dry themselves by the time I will have seated them all on the keyboard. There is not enough water on a keycap ...

Can you recommend a specific brand and model of ultrasonic cleaner and a food dehydrator? P.S. Does running the keycaps through the food dehydrator cause any change in the durability of the plastic? I'll post links a little later but they may be specific to the US. The dehydrator runs at about 60 C...

Are we surprised that a Frenchman never makes mistakes and doesn’t need a Backspace key?

Beware the angry Scotsman, lest he come at you with his caber.

I personally never use Left Shift. On some space constrained keyboards I will remap it to something else.

Won't help with yellowing, of course. Sodium percarbonate is the active ingredient in "Oxi Clean" type products. It is sodium carbonate that releases a peroxide. I believe it is used somewhat commonly by home brewers to clean their equipment. You might experiment with adding small amounts of that, ...

Oh, have you tried uship.com? It's a service for getting directly in touch with LTL truckers.

You can also ask the seller to bring it to a shipping place and have them deal with it for you.
