ok I already auto-answer myself about question 2. it's a revision of xwhatsit's pcb done by wcass! only difference relevant for fw seems to be the row order is swapped.. for better routing and compacting the pcb I guess.. anyway so we know for future reference..

As I noted a few posts back; Get the Ellipse ones. They are miles ahead on smoothness and lightness. Dye sub legends aside, the Unicomp ones does not do justice to the board - beeing stiffer to touch and does not move as smoothly in the barrel. If you are flashing the xwhatsit firmware then it should be enough to press the reset button from the gui.
