Even in your photo it is apparent that the alphanumeric keycaps on the MBP are actually slightly sculpted (they have raised edges).

I can type very fast on this keyboard, but it hurts my fingertips.

Same here. My 2013 MacBook Pro 15” has loads of free space on its 256 SSD because I don’t store principal libraries on laptops. That’s what the Drobo is for. Logic is my biggest install, and none too bad. The unupgradeable storage sounds like a negative on first sight—Apple conning us AGAIN!—but in...

I have 256GB in my MBP. I just checked and I have 155GB free after 2 years of use. I have quite a lot of tools installed, including Adobe CC suite and XCode.

However, I use an external SSD for video editing.

That's why I bought the latest Mac mini which looks like a reasonable computer (althought the price is really outrageous compared to what you get). I'm a bit scared to use a desktop as my primary machine, but in the last 2 years I have rarely used my laptop as a laptop. It's mostly sitting on my de...

I wonder if Apple's solution will be to dispense with moving parts altogether and use a virtual touchscreen-type keyboard like those on phones and tablets? If so, there would be no Apple laptop in my future; I am too accustomed to mechanical keyboards that have substantial key travel. The current s...

Whoa! What a find! I didn't even know that IBM had made small APL machines, I thought APL had been reserved for their mainframes. I'm now playing with J interpreter on my iPad (J was also designed by Kenneth Iverson) and it's a very interesting language.

My experience with Magicforce 68 (with Gateron switches) was abysmal. Several switches gradually lost their clickiness and one became sticky. I don’t know if it’s an issue with Gateron switches in general or if Magicforce is buying factory rejects for their keyboards. Later the keyboard simply stopp...

In the end, I decided to keep my current laptop, which is still covered for keyboard repairs until the end of 2020. I also bought a new Mac mini which is a really solid product in my opinion and probably the most compelling desktop they have released over the last 7 years. I got the 6-core option wi...

For what it's worth, here's my take on these keyboards. My wife uses a 12" MacBook with the 1st gen butterfly keyboard, and I use a 13" MBP with the 2nd gen keyboard. Comparing the two side by side, the 2nd gen keyboard definitely feels a bit more springy and clicky. We haven't had any problems with...

Re: the Blue & White Power Mac G3. I had one of those for a while. It makes a better first impression than it maintains in use. Several strange things lurk inside that machine. I had a collection of retro PCs in Ukraine which I mostly gave away when I moved to Ireland. That doesn't mean I wouldn't start another when time and circumstances permit :-) I think I will start with a PowerMac G3 B&W because: 1) it's an iconic design; 2) I've always wanted one; 3) I'd like to expl...

My favorite are the old IBM Thinkpad keyboards. They seem to have more travel and used good quality rubber (the kind similar to Topre's rubber). Lenovo switched it to the clear fake rubber silicone crap. Last week I had a chance to compare T420s with a NMB keyboard to T430 with a "new style" chickl...

iOS 12 has been good to me so far, after disastrous iOS 11. 10 was also great. To OP, you want sensible features from a company that requires you to grep bitrate with terminal. I’ve given up on OSX a long time ago. Bitrate? You mean for your wireless connections? It's easily accessible from the UI.

Well, it's pretty clear that you have never used it, at least not any recent version (and by "recent" I mean "from 2012 or later").

PocketPCs and Windows Mobile failed not because the devices had bad hardware; the hardware was often better than what iPhone offered at the time. Another question! I'm located in Europe and I'm mostly seeing ISO Model M's for sale.

My understanding is that all Model M membranes and barrel plates are universal, and it's easy to convert an ISO Model M to ANSI by installing stabilizers, hammers and keycaps from an ANSI model. Am I right?
