The keycap on the left is from my Silitek-made Dell AT101W, FCC ID GYUM92SK. The keycap on the right is from an old Alps AT101-102 rubber dome keyboard, FCC ID GYIMIDAS101-102. As you can see, stabilizer wires are different sizes. Dell's stabilizer system is detachable, while Alps uses hard-molded s...

You need to contact Apple via their support site. Seriously. Their server blocks weird/unsupported OS/machine type combinations because of security reasons. If you contact them directly, they will lift these restrictions for your Apple ID.Muirium wrote: ↑no FaceTime (it just returns errors logging in)

I don't trust a journalist to tell me whether or not a keyboard is any good. But why? Journalists actually type for a living and most of them can tell if a keyboard is good or bad. I type more than any journalist and it takes me months to decide if I like a switch. These guys/gals are writing their...

I was going to say it sounded just like my old IBM rubber dome keyboard before I saw the answer. Not surprised, there are some very decent rubber domes out there. I also have a Silitek-made HP keyboard which is similar to Silitek-made Dell QuietKey, it's almost completely silent and actually rather ...

I used MacBook Pro 13" as my only computer for 5 years (first a mid-2009 model, then an early-2011 one). I didn't care for its weight or thickness, but built-in Gigabit Ethernet is a very nice feature. I live in a huge apartment complex and right now I have about 30 wireless networks visible. Even t...

The Apple “pro” laptops have power, thunderbolt x 2, USB x 2, audio, HDMI, and an SD card slot. That seems like a pretty reasonable port selection for people who need to plug lots of shit into their laptops. For the Air, or the new Macbook, the goal is maximum portability. I don't think "portabilit...

I have been quite against the 13" Macbook pro for a while, as I like the extra screen space of the 15" but it does seem like the 13" is the focus for the second. the 13 inch is the only laptop err sorry computer they make that could be considered 'pro'. The Mac Pro is now just a glorified mac mini....

I think the new MacBook is not intended to be your only computer, it's more of a companion device for those who already have a powerful Mac or PC at home. I use a custom-built PC (with full assortment of ports and internal/external storage) as my desktop and a 2010-era vintage MacBook Air 11" as my ...

I have an IBM KB-9910, which is a more recent version of KB-7953 (it even says "KB-7953" on the inside), and it's a very good rubber dome keyboard. (Experimenting with macro shots, I placed a magnifying glass in front of my camera's lens.) That's all screw-on closeup filters really are, they just eliminate the need to hold them. If you're doing this a fair bit, a set of filters at smaller sizes (like 49 mm or 52 mm) won't set you back more tha...

1) Alps AT101-102 is very mediocre, even for a rubber dome, but the keycaps are very good. They are thick, made of PBT, and both Latin and Cyrillic legends appear to be dye-subbed. I will definitely save them for future use. I have one of these boards without the Cyrillic and the keycaps are very n...
