Hey, I thought about it a little more and did a bit of research myself and I still have to pass. It certainly is an interesting device, but I think a normal Windows/Android tablet with digitzer would suit my needs more, especially since I could use it for other thias as well.

Those prices seem even worse than the prices for blue Alps, are 500$ really realistic for ~60 NOS brown Alps?

Thank you for the very detailed answer! It sounds like a very interesting device, but I have nearly zero experience with Linux and it all sounds bit complicated to me, so I'm out, sorry!

Hey, I'd be interested, just a few questions. I'd primarily use it to anotate PDFs, are those notes stored directly in the PDF, so I can view them on my PC as well? Seeing this device is from around 2010, are there updates or custom OSs avaliable that are still supported? How good is the choice of s...

Careful, the bent steel case might not be Alps compatible or is it possible to have one hole for both types of switches, MX and Alps?

The length of the slider influences the keycap height, not the travel of the switch. The height of the bottom of the slider above the PCB corresponds to the switch travel, which get's reduced by the silencing rings.
So both the reduced travel and the longer slider is correcr for the Type S.

I tried that, but the font of doubleshots looks just too sharp compared to the dyesubs. Also I'm worried of the ABS yellowing and then again it wouldn't match the dyesubs.

Just built my KBDFans KBD8X with some German Dyesubs and 60g Skidata MX Clears. The right Shift and Fn are from Enjoy PBT and unfortunately don't exactly match the Cherry dyesubs (color and font). Does anybody know a good source for keys that match the original better? DSCN4656.JPG DSCN4657.JPG DSCN...

That looks to be in amazing condition. If I ever decide to get a Beamspring again, it has to be one of those Bigfoot 5251 or a 3279-style one. Provided I can find one of course.

With Cherrys MX switches and most MX clones you can change the stem and therefore change a switch to linear/tactile/clicky. With certain MX switches, like the Kailh switches with click bar, it's not as easy as to just change the stem to get a different feeling switch. Blaise170 is probably thinking ...
