Yeah what headphone said.. do that.

Agree it is a strange request considering you have naught to do with the mis-ship. Geesh destroy it for no good reason, what a request.

Re: Total Destruction Suggestions Requested

I have shittier boards than that which I keep around. If it works maybe give it to somebody who needs a keyboard. I recall the scene in "the toy" where a wealthy character will only wear socks once. He wonders what they use all his sock fabric for afterwards. Then Pryor's character says "maybe they ...

Re: Mechanical Mice equivalent?

I stuck to roller mice way after they were gone. The early opticals had some issues for picky users, but the late model optical mice perform really well. Really really well.

Re: Buckling spring MT3 Keycaps!

Joining dissimilar material should be easy, one would think, with modern adhesives. Get your smooth half from originally mold cast IBM pieces, then put your finger interactive half from the old type writers on top.

Re: Buckling spring MT3 Keycaps!

Have thought about grafting selectric caps as a possible solution. I think by hand could work even if tedious. Today's adhesives, some of them are amazing. I don't think that would be your main issue with this method. For smoothing out rough machine made parts, maybe build them up a little bit overs...

Re: Kinda curious: What makes Alps so sensitive to dust?

Its a good point about the subjectivity. If there were some standardized tests that more closely reflect real world use.. offset key press or angled key press, differing speeds of push, etc. That would help. But there aint none. I think I know how the results would play out but who really knows unti...

Wasn't there a modern reproduction made of these? I've never used one but I vaguely recall seeing a project. Ah found it, it was using cherry switches. TEX.. nevermind.

Thank you for posting this information. I do not laptop, but will try to try one some time.

They dirty-out (or wear-out age-out) faster than some others... I don't like mine that much, but then again I've probably never had a fresh and so clean one to really know. How many others experience is like mine? Probably many. I think its the normal alps newb experience at this point unfortunately.

If you want that to be a Unicomp, then never under any circumstances ever allow yourself to touch a Mo...

I'll say this for any normies reading through this thread. Buy a unicomp or AT model M for your $60 to $140 USD for a "first mech" then STOP. Don't keep going the rabbit hole. Sure that other whatever else may "feel a little bit better" or whatever but just STOP. Like MJ says. Hindsight being 20/20 ...

Re: Help With IBM Model M Springs

Start with whatever inexpensive good condition used unicomp M you can find for a deal. They are pretty good, you will like it.

Then stop. Otherwise you will end up with a dozen M's. Or keep going I guess is an option.

F's and M's don't feel different in weight to me.

If you've ever seen a stenographer working away.. its hard to argue against that.

If you've ever seen a 100 or 150 wpm typist wailing on a qwerty, it seems somehow less elegant than steno.

If my text messages including all typos get my message across as intended are they even errors? The bigger error t...
