Re: I Plug In, I Type: Steel Series Apex Pro
If you are not opposed to opening the keyboard, taking pictures and measurements, I'd love to try and design a replacement case for it. I might take another look at the old full-size version, but it's only the full-size wired one and Idk if the 2023 model isn't different either. Moreover, how would...

What features does that PCB bring to the Realforce? QMK support? Are you open to suggestions for New Year's resolutions? How about this one: "I will stop to read before replying." The product description says "via". What could that be? If you paste the text into DeepL or Google Translator, it furth...

Re: I Plug In, I Type: Steel Series Apex Pro
Late 2022, there are a few additions to the product line. The new 2023 models have PBT doubleshots out of the box. There are wireless versions too (Bluetooth and proprietary USB dongle, switchable), and I don't know how recent this is, but there's also a 60% model besides full-size and tenkeyless; a...

Re: GOOD Cherry MX Switches
Reds are linear switches, 45 g. Gateron white (I was trying) are similar - 35 g. They're called Gateron Clear AFAIK. I think this the first time I have seen anyone call them "white". The glorious and inconsistent MX White. They're basically really worn out MX blues, this is great for the fact they'...

Re: What was/is the worst keyboard/switch you have ever tried?
There are at least three distinct versions of MX Blue (ignoring the different obscure early variants). (until ~1992) vintage with a subtler bump&click and made using old tooling modern with degrading consistency (tons of complaints esp. in early 2010s) (since ~2017) latest retooled with a stronger l...

Re: What was/is the worst keyboard/switch you have ever tried?
I think mainstream modern switches are fine, with some exceptions where quality control has failed, but… This might be a good place to dump my recent experience: Keychron's low-profile (optical) brown switches are weird. I haven't researched who makes these, as Keychron collaborates with Gateron a l...

Re: Gasket mount keyboards vs plate mount
I think it has to do with bottoming out and with linear switches, you will be doing that a lot. Considering most popular modern switches are linear, having something to "cushion" a heavy bottom out when you are typing too hard on linears, might reduce fatigue a bit. That's absurd. If someone hammer...

Re: Lofree 1% keyboard review (Kailh Jellyfish switches)
The switches may feel lighter than reds because of the relatively tall and heavy caps. SA profile makes any given switch feel a heck of a lot lighter than DSA or Cherry profile, an effect which still surprises me when I switch them out on a board. Don’t know if it’s a leverage or cap weight thing s...

Re: Gasket mount keyboards vs plate mount
I never understood all the hype wrt different plate-mounting designs. Softer? More flexible? More rigid? … What? Has anyone ever done proper ABX testing with these keyboards? Because I seriously doubt any such thing can be noticeable, based on the Weber–Fechner law. Considering the force necessary t...

Re: Unbranded "Anker" ergonomic mouse
However... As I am interested in USB HID stuff, I extracted its report descriptor. Apparently it is also a keyboard, and has some proprietary in/out reports as well. Is this normal? Is the Anker mouse supposed to be programmable? (I can find no software download on their site.) Or will this "mouse"...

Re: Is there something about Cherry MX switches that make them more "clonable" than other designs?
2) The patent on the Cherry MX switch design expired in 2014. This opened the door for the clones who could just copy what was already popular. It took awhile for them to catch up, but eventually they did. The MX keycap design would've already been fairly popular by this point so became the de fact...

Can you use the analog keys to control analog things on the computer, the way a joystick can? I’ve some vague and perhaps faulty memory that this was indeed a thing a few years ago. Re: HHKB for work use?
the layout is far less conservative with the space and uses just about every inch of the board Quite the contrary. The OG HHKB tried to conserve the minimalist layout of keyboards like Apple M0110 . I understand the rationale, sort of. The base layouts had fewer than 60 keys and each vendor added d...

I'm probably the perfect target audience for OG HHKB, as an *nix and emacs user, but I actually don't like the layout. The Control and Backspace/Delete placements are fine. No complaints there. At least nothing major. The 60% form factor would have been fine, if modern software, influenced mostly by...

Most vintage looking membrane keyboards, sadly, are also rubber dome, so by and large membranes remain bad news.
