Re: Post your desktop.

It looks like I didn't post my final setup 3.5 years ago , so here's the gist of it, although it's work-in-progress once again (hence the cable gore and unused monitors on the right). https://i.ibb.co/GcsfJqD/setup-2021-10-16.jpg docked ThinkPad T440p (quad-core i7, 16GB RAM, dual SSD&HDD, FHD IPS s...

Who can uncover the secret of the Terryboard? Is it actually made of sapient pearwood? Will it snicker at you if you type weak prose? Can you set it to auto-write while you go and take a bath? We must know. We will know.

Re: Most accurate/least error prone textual input device?

There are multiple layers to this, from cognitive to mechanical. Just for the regular sort of computer keyboard, there are obvious issues with the physical layout (inconsistently offset rows) that make learning more complicated than it should be, and for example Dvorak et al. found a pattern in typo...

I certainly have the split model (8120) for restoration and perhaps the usual 51xx too (not too sure about that, though).

Re: [WTB] [EU] Interested in a trackball

It's a bit too broad, because the various trackball shapes and sizes are, well, substantially different.

I can certainly offer, just off the top of my head, a (NIB?) Logitech TrackMan Wheel, classic Kensington trackballs (certainly Orbit and Expert), (NIB) Elecom DEFT and HUGE,…

Well, it's not like the world has ever been easily mapped onto a tree structure. Semantic-desktop ontology is an endless rabbit hole, though.

It looks fairly normal, doesn't even have a 1337 font, just the marketing is off: the photo and obviously the name (Jizz Magic Wand)

And this dropped today. "He sounds like a demon. … There's so little research done, we need more cameras down the throats to know about this. … OMG, this is really super fascinating!" Famous last words. Indeed.

Re: What are you listening to at the moment?

I didn't see the point of "reaction videos" on YouTube, and from what I've seen the general consensus is that most of them suck… Well, I've stumbled upon this channel: The Charismatic Voice . She, an opera singer, apparently knew next to nothing about metal until people started pitching Nightwish to...

Re: How are the domes on the Microsoft Natural Keyboard?

The early models were made by Key Tronic; their domes were quite stiff. The multimedia models I didn't like for their overall build quality or rather lack thereof. The Ergonomic 4000 model was infamous for having a terrible spacebar.

MicroTouch The UnMouse Innovative Touch Tablet 1990 ADB Macintosh for $39 (Buy it now) in California

I've made a note about it. Curious if it's usable nowadays, some contemporary trackballs are, but I'm not gonna try it myself, considering the shipping cost (+ customs and tax).

MicroTouch UnMouse touchpad

I was flipping through a copy of 5/1991 MacWorld the other day and came across this ad: UnMouse (Microtouch) The UnMouse does everything a mouse can—only faster, easier, and in less space. To move the cursor, simply slide your finger over the glass surface. To make a selection merely press down. The...

Re: Arthritis - Which layout and switches (need help)

budget recommendation: go on eBay and look for a cheap Goldtouch SKR-4200U (perhaps with a broken plastic lever); it uses fairly soft and *very thocky* domes… Kinesis Freestyle2 is fine too. 30g Topre Realforce is a classic for this use case; JIS layout if you want to engage your thumbs a bit more. ...

Re: Glorious GMMK Pro review (Glorious Pandas)

Admittedly, I read Reddit a bit too much… GMMK Pro was hyped there precisely as a way to get the features of fancy custom keyboards vessels for keycaps (case, latest and greatest frankenswitches, customizable firmware) without doing the work or paying that much. It turns out that half of the selling...

Re: new vertical thumb trackball from Kensington [2020]

So I eventually got one. It's fine. I would have preferred the wired version (yes, there's a wired version too), but it wasn't available at the time. I saw mixed reviews with complaints about build quality at first, that hasn't been my case, though. Just like Elecom trackballs, it's supported in Lin...

Re: Historical question - when did rubber domes eat the world?

I am not sure how relevant this is, but when talking about the point where the sales from clone manufacturers overtook those from IBM, by talking about proportions, it is natural to think of IBM's sales shrinking and the clone manufacturer's sales increasing but, at the beginning, I suspect this wa...
