Hello everyone!

Just a thing. My dad (you guys may know Robin from Cherry on here ) weas telling me about his old Atari 800 computer. Any ideas what the switches are in them?

Depends what you're calling cheap, they usually go for around 60€, for finding cheaper ones, you maybe should check ebay-kleinanzeigen.de for exemple, local people usually don't know how much they are

I've given that site a check, they're all German layout unfortunately, but I see what you mean about locals having little to no idea as to what they are. I've tried various different search queries (model numbers mainly, as well as stuff like 'IBM Vintage Keyboard' which didn't really work. Maybe it's worth trying different eBay outlets) Residing in the UK and being used to a UK or US ANSI layout and then going to a German ISO might prove a little problematic since I'm learning to touch-type (and failing miserably haha may I add.....)

I think the 800 has either Cherry M8 switches or Mitsumis, but I'm not sure....

Interesting NMB keyboard with integrated scanner. No idea of what switches it has. I am betting it is rubber dome.

Edit: This is mechanical at least. NMB RT965CTW - C = Clicky mechanical T = Tactile W = Windows key

I don't think the NMB naming convention was followed consistently. Given that it's a "Windows 95" keyboard, I'm going to say RD rather than space invaders.

The clicky ones were in the RT8000 series (typically RT82nn), so on that basis alone I would say it's rubber dome.

Saw these and thought it was neat since Ive only ever seen a handful of vintage (relatively speaking) 75%/"Compact" boards. They have BTC dome with slider (wiki/BTC_5100) according to the wiki. Ive never had the chance to try BTC domes, and the only not-complete-trash domes I have tried are NMB domes (wiki/NMB_dome_with_slider). Are they anything to write home about in the realm of rubber domes or are these pretty mediocre/meh?

Thanks for the reference. Very informative and it sounds like it gets high marks.
Edit: I found a listing of the foam and foil 5100 also...so are those decent at all? Ive heard the foam degradation can be a major problem for tactility(super mushy mess) but if its gone or removed, then wouldnt it make a decent linear switch?

I have a 5100 and a 5100C in very good condition. The rubber dome is snappier with a longer stroke and the foam and foil is tactile but feels very short to me. Prefer the rubber dome for feel but I like the regular 5100 better for looks and the N-key rollover. Taking out the foam unless it's rotted doesn't seem very wise to me because of the little claw cradle around the discs, but maybe you could replace it with vulcanized rubber washers or felt washers for a stiffer bottom out. But the foam already feels plenty stiff to me. It's not mush at the bottom so much as a soft thump. But then mine has some kind of yellow foam that may be nonstandard.

But I only paid $10 and $3 for my two BTC so I found them to be an excellent value. At the prices you're looking at, maybe not so much.

So are they all Monterey switches? I have also got one but I think it will be one-two months before I can get my hands on one and I am curious of they are all the same switches.
