[Vendor] Ducky competition nr.1

Ducky competition number 1

I thought id host a competition here as i have hosted couple in the nordics as well.

Image
Image

Task(s) shortly:
Make a new single color logo (black on white or white on black, can also have some shades) for Ducky nordic or make a new keyboard layout/design for a keyboard sized between 60% and Fullsize. So basically you can enter competition with either type of entry. You can also enter with something thats beyond the task guidelines given but above mentioned are the preferred.

Prizes:

1st prize:
- Ducky yellow yellow Tenkeyless ISO- limited edition keyboard Shine3 tenkeyless functions, yellow chassis, yellow led, blank yellow PBT keycaps
- Nuka-cola 6.25 space bar by Kayvee
- Ducky white or black blank ISO PBT set
- Ducky nordic transparent wrist rest
- Buffalo Linkstation 410, a 2TB high speed NAS unit

2nd prize:
- Ducky Shine 2 MX red with gold led ISO (with nordic legends)
- Ducky white blank ISO PBT set
- Ducky nordic transparent wrist rest

3rd prize:
- Ducky Shine 2 MX red with gold led ISO (with nordic legends)

Pls note!
- The prizes will be shipped within EU only. So if you are participating from outside EU you'll need to have proxy that will ship the prizes forward. Anyways, the prizes are ISO layout so shouldnt be that interesting to CONUS folk anyways (and linkstation is ~230V).

Some rules
- Post your entry by end of october 2013. The winner will be announced in november
- Post your entry on this thread
- By posting an entry you are giving up any future copyright claims. If Ducky or Ducky nordic are to use the (unique)logo you have made or make a keyboard with (unique)layout/design u have posted it will be free of any further compensation/claims to/by the artist. On the other hand ill say this: If we would use a logo u've made we'd make you a classy badass hoodie with that logo and if its the (unique)layout/design keyboard in case u'd receive such a keyboard if its ever going to be made.
- Do not use/copy any existing material or copyright material you do not own.
- You can make more than 1 entry

Some hints:
- The logo: It ofc needs to feature the duck head/theme in some form. It can have "Ducky nordic" text in the logo. It can be subtle, classic, tattoo, wild, punk, whatever style. Think of a nice polo shirt and what kind of logo would look absolutely badass on such a shirt.
- The keyboard or keyboard layout: Fullsize is done, TKL is done, 60% is coming very soon...so something innovative in between all those. 65% 70% 75%, split, ergonomic? It should still be a keyboard/layout that would attract a casual user as well. Not only some specific coder group.

Winner election
...is done by Ducky nordic.

EDIT: 1st prize got modified on 30th of august
EDIT2: 1st prize got revealed on 22nd of october

Winner announcements

Ok, this was a tough job to pick the winners as there was a lot of good entries. If you participated and did not win pls dont be hurt by it. Theres only 3 prizes and the winners must be picked by some criteria. Any competition that is of creative nature is subject to preference in the eye of the beholder.

The competition had 2 kind of entries. Logo or keyboard layout. On the logo part there were hints given in start and in midst of the competition. We already have a logo so we were looking for a more casual/wild one for fun/shirts etc. Something different.

On logo department there wasnt one that we could use and many posted logos still followed the original logo which is not subject to change. In other words, i feel not enough risk was taken. Would have liked to have seen more entries which are "out there" :)

On layout department there was a lot of variety and i was happy to see ideas you have. Some very original ones as well.

So, we have decided that 1st prize will go for a layout entry and 2nd + 3rd for a logo entry. I will not reveal the winning layout yet (as the 1st prize keyboard hasnt arrived yet either) but i will now reveal 2nd and 3rd spot winners:

1st Prize (for layout)
Muirium

Image

Why: 60% 'ish size keyboard with an uncommon twist. I like the layout (well, maybe with couple minor changes :p) and also the presentation when it was posted. Oh and...Muirium is the reason 002's prizes havent been shipped yet either. As grand prize keyboard hasnt yet arrived here and Muirium is also the proxy for 002, all the goods for both shall be delivered together.

2nd prize (for logo)
002
Image
Why: The most "out there" kind of logo entry. Weird in good way. The beak artisticly offcenter...and ofc the tattoo on the chest !!1

3rd prize (for logo)
Kay
Image
Why: The most refined logo entry. Even if style/theme doesnt hit home, there was clearly much effort given.

Runner ups, 3 entrys, in no particular order
The prize will be a retail boxed PC game, probably football manager 2014 (ill need to check if i have 3 of those tomorrow. If not some1 will get some other new game)

For winners: Pls send ur delivery addresses. If you are not located in EU then pls provide/find an EU proxy.

Nice contest!

Unfortunately I am a total noob when it comes to graphic design, so I probably won't be able to submit a decent design -.-

Well vector would be ofc nice but as not everyone can do vectors so a decent picture with an excellent idea on it will also do well.

A great idea can go far as well, even if execution is not ideal.

Ill show a very fine example. I held a Ducky competition in Finland. Its was a ducky themed picture/keyboard/logo drawing contest. This was one of entrys that won a prize 8-) :

Image

Why?
Because...check the art above. The fact that the paper on right hand side ended before it could be finished didnt stop the man from entering the competition. Gotta love that kinda spirit :D

  • Entry 1
    75.png
    Entry 1

This Layout hasn't been done in ISO yet, I know one ANSI one but I've always been craving for an ISO variant of it, without a strange nkro over USB...
Advantages: It has function keys which are used often in games and operating systems as well as an arrow cluster which I prefer to use when browsing through files in a file manager!
  • Entry 2
    70.png
    Entry 2

This is a layout for gamers who want to have lots of space right to their keyboard for the mouse, it shares the same advantages as the left hand Duckys in this aspect. You will serve users as well that prefer to not have additional buttons on the left side either by reducing the keyboards length!
  • Entry 3
    30.png
    Entry 3

I saw this layout on keyboard porn, it would be the perfect companion for Entry 2, giving the option to have a full-blown keyboard for work by having this numpad+nav cluster combo right (or left) next to it, and a cool keyboard with function keys and the mouse as near as on the alpha cluster as possible while gaming!

This is a 75% layout that needs to exist:

d.png

This does require more controller smarts than the average 50¢ encoder, since the Num Lock function has to be handled as a layer internal to the keyboard rather than blindly sent the sent to the host in raw PS/2 / USB fashion.

Of course there should also be a non-ISO version for people without freakishly long pinkies.

Here are my two ideal layouts. Don't mind the legends, I like programmable keyboards and tend to change things above the arrow cluster. I love doing logos. Logos will come later.

Compact but with enough keys to provide everything you need:
Image
I never hit the space bar outside of C and M, but here the same but with a space bar which is far easier to source:
Image
That FN location is nice since it allows you to easily push it with the thumb while still reaching all the keys to the right of it with the rest of your fingers.

The idea is great (execution rather meh ;)). Love that Viking-stuff!

But why there is a need to change the logo? The current one is quite cool in my opinion.

Maybe the FN layer needs some more work, but you got the idea.
