Oh well
This is a really hideous pic you post here. I hadn't even noticed it's not just one cap, but two.
You should have posted this pic instead:

Nice idea, by the way. I think it deserves noting ( #DTA2018 ).
On the other hand, IBM stuff is the last thing I would want on my Cherry MX switches

LOL! My view on this changed completely based on kbdfr's post. Though still not into artisan but man that monitor looks really nice.

There is nothing wrong with the first pic, and would be perfectly acceptable on GH or /R/MK however on DT relatively 'new' concepts like per key back lighting and artisans are not viewed in as high a value. A for the caps themselves i think that it is a very clever design to actualy use the back lighting to show the text through the keycap and certainly some of the nicest artisan keycaps that i have seen.

Not wishing to derail this thread too much but I'd like to challenge that stereotype. While there certainly are grumpy old codgers like myself who will probably never buy products from this vendor unless they start making caps for buckling sping - MASSIVE HINT, we're not exclusionary and love everyone.

As if to prove the point:

Rarely have I ever seen someone denigrate modern equipment simply because it's new. Typically the stuff that gets criticized is of the "unicorn vomit" variety.

Two pics of the same cap(s) proposed by the seller. Which shows better what it’s about?

Those bling-bling kids are a real nuisance sometimes. They’re so busy with whining that they don’t even notice when someone who always makes fun of artisans actually even proposes one for the Deskthority Awards 2018 ( #DTA2018 ).

Let me be more specific.

If someone would make spherical caps for buckling spring my wallet would scream for mercy.

If someone could make thick, quality, spherical space cadet keys for buckling spring, I would be cashing out my 401k.

Another thing to bear in mind for those who manufacture MX keycaps but not Buckling Spring... the board ITSELF is curved, which means you don't have to do different profiles for different rows. Less molds required.

Don't play with me chris, if you think you can get some IBM caps fabricated, let's do it!

It's actually pretty curious that more people haven't tried to get custom sets going for Model M boards. I know Unicomp is available but their quality is less than desirable.

I know that there's some kind of belief that those of us who own IBM keyboards are boring and don't want anything that diverges from the original. The best example I can think of for that is the ellipse thread. Two examples:

0. Ellipse decided to spend the serious $$ to recreate the original IBM F keycaps instead of doing something different, say spherical keycaps.
1. His commitment to absolute authenticity to the original, even to the point of replicating some of its weak spots.

I'm not criticizing his decisions (okay, I am criticizing the keycaps decision), but when people see things like this it's no wonder that they think we're all original constitutionalists with our single shot, muzzle-loaded Model Fs ;-)

I can't help but think this is a completely untapped market. The MX keycap market is saturated and it is uniqueness that sells.

I find it hard to believe that the first, new, original, keyset for BS keys in decades won't outsell YetAnotherMXCapset.

Please, won't somebody please prove me right? damnnit.

Man I'd love some spherical double-shot ABS keycaps for my Fs. Although Ellipse's caps will be XT profile which is my next favorite after spherical and the best offered on any buckling spring keyboard.

I've thought about taking model M key stem base things, and somehow milling out the inside of an SP SA keycap to fit, and gluing it all together...

But: I'd definitely buy this in buckling spring stem, definitely... Maybe like 2 or 3.

Since we do not have an IBM keyboard at the moment, could you suggest a good place to purchase some IBM switches in order to start experimenting.
Keep in mind that we are in Europe.

The only place I know of to get externally sourced switches is from orihalcon. Otherwise you would need to build a switch yourself with loose parts since buckling springs are not discrete switches per se.

The most cost effective way for you to get your hands on something experimental is to snag a second hand model M from eBay.

I wish I was at my computer so I could pRovide more information, but let's get some info here.

The difference between Ms and Fs is only on the foot and the barrel so, as a keycap manufacturer you can ignore it (much like you can ignore the difference between the various MX clone manufacturers).

The model M has all the barrels in the keyboard in one formed structure, with the Fs, they were separate units.

Snag an M to play with. I'll post more later.

Just to be clear, is this one keycap, or two? You keep saying "keycap" but having tab and escape share the same keycap would be stupid.

I can send him a crappy busted Model M barrel plate if it means I get to buy some deep dish spherical buckling springs key caps. The only thing wrong with it is one of the space bar stabilizer prongs got snapped off.

Now is this craze going around to buy complete ancient PC's made a century ago, so this Key-cap is quite fitting in these times.

Normally I HATE all artisan key-caps because their irrelevant on every level BUT this small set could resurrect my interest in collecting again. Can't leave it all to the minions to enjoy this type of collecting.

Sometimes even old geezers need to pick up a few.
