Depends what size you want, but that big I think you're looking at the DELL screens only really, unless you go 30 and look at the HP/LG/EIZO screens

Smaller (24") you're looking at DELL, or possibly an SUS/HP, or the LG 23"

Correct me if I'm wrong but these things are anything but cheap

Haha I know, although a u2711 isn't exactly cheap, so I put it in there just to show the whole range :P

I have the U2711, only thing I don't like is the wide color gamut which I don't really like and hardware calibration does not help.

When are they going to come down finally?

I think Hazro do some of the cheapest 2560x1440 resolution LED monitors. Can be had for £400 ($600 or so) for the 8 bit panels. No sign of them on Newegg though and they only seem to be on the OCUK and Scan webstores in the UK at the minute as well. Scan.co.uk has the more expensive 10 bit panel at £527.

Cant it be disabled by settig it to sRGB or something?

Yet but still looks much different from a normal "sRGB" screen. In that mode colors seem washed out.

Sucks! Wanted to get the U2711 as secondary screen...

I got a U2312HM just before Christmas for only 184€ and I love it.
Spoiler:
It was also rated really well by Prad.de, a German monitor-testing webpage. (There is also a shorter English version of the test: http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2 ... 312hm.html btw) This test actually was the trigger for my purchase. I can highly recommend this site, at least for people who know German (I've never really read the English translations). Their tests normally are really really extensive.

Found a Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC for 550 on CL today.. Thinking of biting the bullet on it. No VGA or HDMI but it does have a SIPS Panel. I dunno, its an older screen though. Thoughts?

Never owned one but I have only heard good things about them! Would go for it if you don't need accurate colours for work.

Blacks and colors look amazing and very vivid. Im really happy with the purchase. 2560x1600 is GREAT!
Thank you everyone for the input. I was going to use my 2209 as an off monitor but its just going to sit in the corner for the time being while i get used to this monster.

30" Dell might be my tax return purchase this year. I'm glad you hear you like it. I played around with a 27" Apple Cinema Display this weekend, and I think I could get use a single, large-format monitor. I have used multi-monitor setups over the last several years, but as long as I don't lose real-estate pixel-wise, I think the switch wouldn't be too difficult to manage.

Looks very nice, not heard anyone not be anything but over the moon when they finally took the plunge to 2560x1600.

If I had the money I'd join you :P

Its a personal preference for sure, I have 2 screens at work (20@1200x1600 and 24@1920x1200) and i like it for the multitasking and the ability to have that much functionality.
But for home i guess id rather get away from that and just relax.
The screen def was the best purchase i have made this year and i dont think anything will top it.
The lack of inputs are def disheartening though.
The 27 ACD is great if you have a MBP though cause of the charging and docking capabilities of it.
