Can't believe someone did this! I had a similar idea years ago. Anyway, quite awesome.

What, no Windows ME? No NT 3.51 or 4?

I don't think anyone would be so mean as to install Windows ME onto anything ever again.

True. I think that's how the US was trying to get answers out of detainees at GITMO: installing ME on their PCs.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Deskthority.net. MW doesn't appear to be posting at Geekhack any more.

He hasn't posted here, either.

He had to choose between upgrading to ME or 2000.

Hmm, pretty intresting setup...

And unbelivable legacy support for old software... Vista and 7 ended this?

I liked the narration. That was pretty cool.

I'm not a big fan of upgrading an OS, but kudos to MS nonetheless.
Now who is going to try this for our fruity friends? :D

It isn't possible due to the architecture changes over the years. (PPC chips to Intel etc.)

It was fantastic to see that all but the newest windows' would keep all the settings from the old installations. Some really cool things were left on that upgraded Win 7.

Dammit now me, usenet, and a VM are going to have to sit down for an evening and see if it really works.

Amazingly, I put up with Windows ME for 2 of my 4 years of college. It SUCKED.

No, you have to use the actual Window versions for over a month while installing new software and such. Get back to us in 6 months and tell us how it worked out.

Speaking about laboratory conditions, do you think Cherry factors in dust and tacos when they state their switches last for at least 50M operations?

Posted: 10 Mar 2011, 05:21
by rpgman1
Most likely not for Cherry since dust goes into everything, but should be one factor. As for tacos, well I don't think Cherry would factor that unless you spilled beer or soda on the keyboard.

You still have to give some credit to M$. Even in laboratory conditions this is pretty impressive.
