The Deskthority Telegram group has gotten quite popular really fast and I would like to invite anyone to join!
Spoiler:
currently unavailable
https://telegram.me/deskthority
You can use a web client but there are also desktop and mobile clients available.

There is also a DTSpy channel where new DT posts are announced from the forum spy:
https://telegram.me/DTSpy

Currently I am in charge of the channel and proposed an open, SFW (safe-for-work) policy. If anyone is unhappy with my management of the club appoint another channel admin I will hand it over to whoever is appointed.

We need a Who is Who in Telegram! Also can you somehow have different aliases in different chats?

Edit: I'm Paul M currently. (I think, not entirely sure how this works.)

That's a good idea, Nuum. I'm not very difficult ot decipher; I'm Khers here and on telegram, but the handle was taken so my telegram handle is @Khersie

Oh yeah good point. I set my name to Wodan for easy chat identification, my unique username is @woutan though.

I was contemplating the idea of a discord channel actually. what's so special about Telegram?

Why are there so many services that do the same thing? What's the difference between telegram, discord, slack, etc?

It's all about market segmentation.

We live in an era when anyone can go and write a messaging platform in a few weekends, and there is no real reason to use one over the other. It's not like the good ol' days of IRC.

well, telegram (AFAIK) is open source, none of the others are.

I just never used Discord and did use Telegram for some keyboard related stuff so it was my first choice. Slack is more of a corporate, closed solution that requires invites for every new member and individual registration for every slack channel joined. You register for the GH slack and then register for the DT slack ...

We're getting 2k posts per 24h now ... an active keyboard chatroom!

An awful lot of Alps lovin' tho ... still figuring out how to censor that.

Sigh...there are so many chat/message mediums. An old man like me can't keep up.
XKCD sums it up well:

This seems wrong. Don't twitter DM, google docs chat tab and hangouts require e-mail? And according to this there should be someone who refuses to use anything but IRC:

And then there's this guy:

And one of them is probably this person:

I don't like that it puts me back where I was when I last logged and then says 'you have 15 million messages to catch up on!'

I know I can just skip straight to the bottom, but obsessive me feels like he needs to read through all those comments! Sometimes I just don't bother because I'm not on enough and get tired of trying to catch up. Also. can you search for keywords in the comments? I can't remember if I found anything for that or not.

I used to use mIRC all the time to download my super above-board and legal video game and movie copies :) It was weird learning it at first, but it was always to reliable and simple.
