deskthority - Suggestions and Changelog

Got any ideas or suggestions? We are open for feedback.

Before suggesting drastic changes, you should note a few things though:

Design
Our design is minimal on purpose. Going by the KISS principle, we tried to focus more on the content than the stuff around it. We do not plan on increasing the size of the reply/edit/etc. buttons or avatar limits (currently 64x64 pixel). We also do not separate moderators/admins from users in colors and stuff like that. The same goes for the user panel - Who really cares who has the most posts? If you really do, you can still see the full user profile by clicking the little "▼" next to a username to see the extended profile info there.

Sections/Categories
We are pretty content with the few sections and categories we currently have. Each category has a dedicated color scheme (R/G/B) that is kept throughout the entire board. We are open to hear about more/extended forums in the future, but with the current size of the community this should be enough ;)

Other than that - Found any bugs or want something changed for the better? Let us know!

I like the forum very much the way it is. What perhaps could be added though is a member map. I don't know if that is in accordance with your KISS principle though.

You should increase the file size for avatars though.

The favicon doesn't look as pro as the rest.

Another idea: Point language specific domains (.de, .nl...) to the foreign languages section.

In any case we'll probably install some different language packs (for the interface) for this bulletin board at one point.

As of now, we didn't grab any other domains besides com/net/org yet. If the board grows enough it is definitely a good idea. And yeah, should probably go ahead and install the other language packs soon.

Any suggestions?

German, French, Spanish, Italian - Anything else?

Korean, but we'd need to find a Korean willing to do the translation, there is no pack available.

Hi everybody!

Am I the only one who does not find a quote-button?

Go into "post reply" and in "topic review" at the bottom there's a little speech bubble icon. That's your quote button. Only one I can see though.

Edit: Appears to be a quote bubble in thread view as well.

Very bad idea to visualise these buttons as background graphics, instead of using text.

The problem is:
I usually use my own colors instead of the website's for better readability. Background images are not displayed in that mode.
:-(
Edit: Now that I know where it is, I will find it thanks to the baloon help.

Install the Tapatalk module so we can browse on the run :)

You'll run into more and more problems if you turn of background images for links. This is because it's a popular, clean, SEO friendly way to construct such links, which also allows for a hover effect without javascript.

<a href="...">Reply with quote</a> (and quote.gif defined in the css as the background image for this link)
vs
<a href="..."><img src="quote.gif" /></a>

I just find it more pleasant to have a good contrast between text and background.

BTW: The text 'Reply with quote' is hidden, so I can only see the baloon text when I move the mouse over that link.

No big problem, I can live with it;-)

Good :) It would be hard to fix, I think this template set uses it a lot.

It's pointing to .net so it's probably grabbed by "us".

Would that lead to inadvertent consequences?
