Yeah, I was really looking for things I attached in that example. The images will have names like img_1234.jpg straight out of my camera. So what I'd like is results in the form of posts, with the text search applying to the words I wrote around them.

This is also often true of the images other people have posted. Most of us are too lazy to hand name all our attachments. The surrounding post documents itself. And for forum search to work optimally, it'd be best to be able to screen for posts with attachments present, by a given author, containing certain words.

Putting a string in quotes does not work; it brings up all 3 words in a post, but not as a string (all together). I did try putting +alps +cream +blue +.jpg and Muirium as author, which brought up only one post, but the pics had nothing to do with the search terms :-) You will have to get creative and try to remember exact strings of words in the post, and then put every word with a + in front of it.

I'm usually able to remember some dumb one off thing I said and find my own things that way. But it'd be so handy to screen the results to posts with attachments only, for the harder stuff I'm not.

Edit: Huh, guess we need to support East Asian URLs in [ img ] tags. The image is here:

I'd like to have a sage function. I'd like to make a post in my marketplace thread saying I'm on holidays. Of course I don't want to bump to thread with that.

I don't know phpBB internals (and I feel lucky i haven't seen any php code for quite while), but I don't think that this would be hard to implement. It would just add a post option, and the sorting sql query would have to be amended with a simple where clause. I guess to main problem is keeping up with the phpbb updates.

Any comments?

You could edit your OP.

When you're in a PM conversation with someone, if you want to send a message and click "reply" but you're the last one in the stack, you send the message to yourself instead of to the other person, and it doesn't even tell you because it doesn't show in the new messages. So you send something and without you knowing, it never arrives. That's bullcrap, is there a way to fix that? :/

In the green forums, the post icons indicating read/unread posts are harder to distinguish than the icons in the other themes. Could we possibly get a green unread icon (Image) that has a bit more contrast from the green read icon (Image)?

Would it be possible to change it so we can reply to PMs via email ?

Yeah, I'd love to not see the politics threads in the spy. The only pointless bickering I want to see on Deskthority is about input device preferences!

Then bar the ot forum from spy.

It's technically too difficult to reply to PMs via email or exclude threads from the spy. That's a lot of development time. Anyone is welcome of course to take a shot at the phpBB code. Although my guess is they'd rather spend time reading about input devices ;) The good news is politics threads blow over.

This has not been updated recently, but gist of it is to allow registered users to exclude topics they don't want to follow, plus a few other things. https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=1390235

For threads related to club business, such at position selection, yearly financial reports, that type of stuff, would it be possible to send a message all club members? I actually am interested in this type of information, but I rarely venture down to the bottom of the page.

Do we have the ability (at least as the thread owner) to create a distribution list of all users that have posted within or are currently subscribed to/bookmarked on a thread? I am assuming the answer is no, but thought I would check if the admins had some "hidden reports" section before I look through 1500+ posts for folks that haven't been active lately. We are just going to a small window (hopefully) that wasn't known too far in advance, and didn't want them missing out if they wanted to participate.

No, but we can pull something out of the database.

Not sure if this has ever been brought up but how about "Like" button support in the Photos/Videos section only? It would help show some appreciation for the photos/videos taken without having to make a post.

Actually that would be amazing if it isn't a big deal on your end. Something along the lines of the following would be incredible, but I'll take anything I can get :).

Code: Select all

select user_name, count(*) as counter from thread_posts group by user_name order by counter desc, user_name asc

Good idea.
And while we're at it, show "followers".
And while we're at it, add "members who read this thread also read following threads: …"
And while we're at it, …

Or, to put it without irony, I don't see why we shoud want to avoid "having to make a post".

So I take it that you are not a fan of the idea? ;)

It's not to avoid making posts; those will happen anyway. I always appreciate photos that are posted but I find myself trying to add something to a reply post just so it is worthwhile; more than just a "Nice job on the photos" response. As such, many times I don't make a reply post at all.

Maybe it's just me.

You are right

One of the reasons is that a "Like" wouldn't differentiate whether those who pressed it liked the photo or rather the item displayed: a pic of a nice artisan keycap, for example, even if rather crappy, would certainly yield a ton of "likes".

I can live with likes in the photo & video section but find it very harmful in any discussion/conversational forum.

So if we get a "like" button do we also get a "dislike" button... :?: :maverick:

Oh! In that case, as a lousy photographer I'm not just rather against it, but definitely opposed to it

For PMs, a "Mark as Read" when multiple PM's are checked would be nice. Normally I wouldn't care, but because of how our outbox/sent functionality behaves, people wonder whether their messages make it through. So much of the time, I just read the PM in the email notification I receive.

The website was unreachable for a couple of hours. I'm not sure what happened, because the server was up and all services were up (Apache, Mysql, etc.) I could reach the web control panel. Restarting services didn't help, rebooting the system did.

I don't think it was that, that topic got quite a few hits from a couple of places, but nothing we can't handle.
Probably just a cock-up during an automatic server software update which ran at the same time the trouble started.

Could we possibly get a higher-resolution version of the Deskthority logo in the header via the HTML5 <img> tag srcset attribute? Currently it looks pretty blurry at 4k resolution.
