Hi All,

just got my Model M from Ebay (38€/42$) its in a really good condition for its age, all looks and feels good only the left shift keycaps is kinde of broke (no problem ordert one from Ebay) I just wanted to show it to you because I didnt found any on google with this age and number.

Standart M. Nice. What you got is slightly better than blue label. Silver sqaure label being the best M in terms of build quality. Looks gigantic next to whatever that keyboard is above.

ya its my first Model M ;D the other keyboard is my KBP V60. I really unterstand the love of Model M now, used it only like 2h and i love it, tipping, gaming all works great.

Grats. Even with 2kro I've had no issues with using one for gaming. Also IBM is addicting. Started with 1 board, and now have 6, lol.

Good question. Maybe has something to do with matching the indicator light sticker? Why that is idk, but I have only seen this on ISO boards. Hopefully someone knows as you got me curious now, lol

I would imagine it is analogous to "holding the Shift key down". Shift down = LETTERS UP, so that is inherently backward. Thus any arrow-derived representation of a lock for Shift will be backward with regard to one or the other.

IIRC a downward arrow stands for "lock" on German layouts.

that is correct. But it`s not always used in ISO. No idea if there was a change at some point. "Lock down" comes to mind.

Yeah, it's a German specialty. Makes nice visual sense: like Shift but different. I never see it on UK ISO keyboards though. We use the "handbag" (padlock) icon, or a dashed upward arrow.

On an actual typewriter, the shift lock actually moved the entire mechanism downwards and held it there.

And Apple keyboards have locking Alps switches for that key.

This is all true, but Shift is represented with an upward arrow even though it historically lowered the carriage.

Interestingly, Cherry uses the down arrow with a line below to represent not CapsLock but ScrollLock on their G86 keyboards, at least in terms of LEDs.
