How do you store your keyboards?

Well, I have in have collected a high number of keyboards this year that I want to keep.
Right now are scattered in some places of my room that I could fit them into, but I want something more organized.

So, how do you store your keyboards?

I store them as per XMIT and others. USPS large flat-rate boxes.

I have some in drawers in my desk, some on the desk, some laying around in boxes in which they came, and finally some on the sill, but away from the window of course. That's about 10 boards.

I store my Duck Octagon and its Lightpad companion in some custom made cases, courtesy of Intelli and his awesome artisan friend.

I store my Hammer Alps custom in an HHKB carrying case for now, but I think I might want to hit up Intelli once more for another case!

For my vintages, I have them stored away in a corner of my room laying height-wise on their sides against my wall. I really want cases for them, but I'm not sure where I can go for some. I was thinking of perhaps some small electronic (musical) keyboard cases for them.

If not, I can always go with flat rate boxes like klikky does. I've never thought of something so simple. :) That's a fantastic way to keep boards out of any UV light, which I'm definitely concerned with after having restored my vintage boards, retrobrighting included. One has a UV resistant matte clear coat I used to retexture it though, so it should be safe from reyellowing, I guess/hope. :P

None, other than he's a vendor. ;)

I do exactly what klikkyklik does, except that I use some tape to fold back the flaps of the flat rate boxes. I can fit about 14 on a shelf this way.

One of my projects this coming week or two is a better storage system. We'll see what I come up with.

And as far as I know, the most prolific vintage IBM keyboard archiver/restorer/vendor so far.

I am not worthy!

Well, if there's ever a war of the keyboards, the stockpiles some of you have will be very formidable. 8-)

Forgot if we're calling these vintage IBM keyboards as battleships or aircraft carriers, but the cells are wide enough to easily hold the 1985-1999 model M keyboards (like 1391401) and even the 1985 (6110347) model F keyboards.

yeah them's the ones I meant, the F122. They're so broad, and so long that I thought they might fall out xD . But it looks fine actually. Looks like I might have to buy a few of those cupboards when I finally get a (paying) job and a proper house :D .

Don't feel too bad about that. Things aren't any better at my storage facility brother's all too literal boxroom:

Not everything in there is mine. But then again not all of my stuff here is in there! But you get the idea. Lots of work to do.

Brother's sax. He hasn't played it in about as long as some of Cindy's keyboards have laid in storage! I'm not sure if this is something it's in my own best interest to nag him about…

Looking forward to your inevitable garage sale! Those boards need some love the same way your place needs space.

I like to think I’ve got just about enough stuff (although 3 SSKs is clearly overkill). Most of my boards are TKL and smaller, and most of my boards see fairly regular use. Still, the sight of a dozen of anything is always enough to convince a normal that you’re crazy. But who isn’t?

I don't know. 4 favorites with a primary and 2 backups of each, where's the problem?

Only 4 kinds of keyboard? Forever?? Are you mental???

Mind, backups might be wise. I do worry what I’d do if I broke or lost my one and only HHKB. That little trooper travels everywhere with me.

Yeah, at the very least you need 92 at a basic minimum and comfortably accrue around 367 so not to feel morose.

Having any less is somewhat depressing and obscene because what else would replace your time and effort besides cars, bikes and kids ;) .

Just surprised how you actually keep the CRAP keyboards along with your better models.

I will not keep any CRAP keyboards simply because you eventually run out of space, hence the trash models get all dumped at our local land fill.

Also my minions help to sort out the rubbish pretty quickly, so there is no wastage left on the shelves or in boxes.

Nah man, everything is contextual. Great keyboards are only great because they're better than crap keyboards ;) . Besides, they make some fairly entertaining material at times.
