So I found the patent for the Cherry g80-5000 and it has the two inventors listed by name...maybe we should try to find them?^^

Really interesting stuff pops up googling the people... Günter Murmann was appointed CEO of Cherry Europe in 2003.
He has announced his retirement last week, on the 11. Nov, 2011. Possibly we can contact him about an interview...I would be really interested to talk to him since he was around for a VERY long time with Cherry and was part of inventing the 5000.
Manfred Frank has headed his own Product design company since 1979, so I assume the g80-5000 was developed externally...they would have made the actual CAD designs and prototypes...who knows, maybe they even still have the files. I would love to know if Webwits v5000 is from them.

Browsing the european patents is just as interesting...a lot of the cherry patents are no longer effective due to them not paying the patenting fees. For example, they stopped paying the fees for the ergonomic keyboard patent in 2001.

A patent is always filed for a specific time. If you wish to renew or extend the patent you need to pay extra fees.fossala wrote:Do you have to carry on paying the patient office after you file it?

This is why im assuming it might have been manufactured at Frank Design...once they had the final design ready to present to Cherry, only then did they patent it.sixty wrote:Interesting, this patent already shows the "retail" version. That must mean that webwit's prototype V80 is probably considerably older than even the first units used to register the patents.

Sorry, I was so angry, that I first wrote in german! ^^
I just wanted to say, that I hate it, that Cherry stopped producing the best keyboards...
The G80-5000 was really great: doubleshots, NKRO, tenkeyless and ergonomic!
Has someone of you one for sale? ^^

Really depends. I am not a buckling spring guy, so yes of course.
Either way, webwit will soon be here and tell all your mortal souls that none of these keyboards are ergonomic and that the only real solution is a datahand

Disregarding my personal switch preference, the M15 is better.

The space bars are of adjustable length. They are custom for this keyboard, i.e. type "MX5000". My guess is the space bar stabilizers are custom jobs for this keyboard as well, to fit the custom space bars.
