Call me crazy, but I like the grabbag look! Though I wouldn't have it on all of my keyboards, just one.

Now if only I could get amy grabbags for cheap. SP bumps up the price every time and I hate that.

you're crazy

I think the only reason to use a set like that would be to try a profile you never have before, not for any aesthetic reasons.

I have this keyset, but it has functional uses as well as aesthetic. :P

I second Blaise. Grabbag can be sweet. That picture is a bit much, but any non-standard set would look overdone with 9 keyboards on the screen. Bottom middle and the one above it look quite fetching, I think.

That's just my opinion. I like the look and the fact that it feels ''thrifty': you know, trying to scrape together a functional keycap layout without needing to get a loan for a GMK/SA/insert any keycap manufacturer/etc. I agree that it should NOT be your main keyboard, but I like it.
That said, I hope other manufacturers get in on the grab bag thing. But SA holds a monopoly because they are one of the only ones making lots of keycap sets constantly.

The problem with SP's grab bags is that they are needlessly expensive and people go nuts over them to get some really crappy keys. I've personally seen some of the keys from these grab bags before and many of them are QA rejects for a reason - the doubleshot injection molding went wrong and the keys do not look right, copies of the same keys, etc.

That's the problem man. And they want us to pay MORE for it.
I really do think GMK should get in on this, since they get many keycap orders from the community. There would be so many unique keys!

The difference with ALL German companies is that they are EMBARRASSED about mistakes and company errors.

That is what key-caps are about, to produce FIRST CLASS QUALITY every time. The Germans do not ever show, nor sell off mistakes due to their own reputation as perfection builders.

They would rather go bankrupt than sell off any disasters, showing off their inaccuracy. Which in the long run benefits us all.

Not gonna lie but this keyboard is actually pretty rad. Should have gone with orange and green keys though.

And i agree with their decision to do this, to me it seems like a very bad company move to sell your garbage to the public

It certainly breeds confidence in a company to never show one's mistakes, a statement of excellence, I guess. Consumer confidence. Didn't stop them from the GMK Triumph Adler fiasco.

Selling off subpar/failed products to the public is a bit of an iffy thing to do.

If SP sold their garbage for $15/bag, I'd have much less of an opinion on it. But I can literally buy decent quality, new 108-key sets for the price they are selling these bags for.

That is not me, of course. It is just a picture I found somewhere.

I am very impressed that the keyboard could continue under its circumstances.

Why would you think he is lying about his health? :(

Suspect he's in fine shape and will be around DT for some decades yet, despite the ciggies.

I think they're pointless and usually make a keyboard look cheap and chintzy. I also am pretty annoyed by RGB lights. I like backlighting but I don't understand why one would want their keyboard to look like a casino slot machine. For one its distracting, and two looks a bit trashy. But that's just my opinion, nothing against those that enjoy it.

Was just looking on Ebay for keyboards and keyboard accessories and I happened upon this sad poor poor IBM model F AT. This is one of if not my favorite IBM keyboard and it just saddens me to see it in this saddened state.

I'm half tempted to get it and return it to its factory goodness...

All decent minded people over the age of consent, agree with you here.

Same here but the back lighting must be precise, meaning no spillway of lights into other areas like around the key-caps which make it look cheap and nasty like most of those Cherry afflicted monstrosities.

I unfortunately like the Romer-G switches and their take on backlighting, clearly superior to all others BUT of course are let down by earlier versions of their omron switches (mushy and unfeeling, like a Democrap) ;) .

It's probably business for him.

If people are paying his prices then he shall continue doing it. Sometimes bad rubbish and poor taste go hand in hand for some sections in society.

If he's earning a good living doing this then he''s living the dream..... ;)

So he has a preexsisting reputation for this type of work? Who the heck is buying these atrocities and thus keeping him in business? Espcecially considering the prices he see fit in charging.

Yes, he's got a reputation of ruining old keyboards and has a presence on this very forum under the name just_add_coffee. The creations were heavily featured on the first couple of pages of this very thread until the images were removed from imgur. As to who buys these a abominations, I don't know, but I sincerely hope they stop.

You could do that. But then you'd have an inferior keyboard that is more susceptible to rust, no alt keys, has a ridiculously stiff and hard-to-remove spacebar, and it wouldn't programmable.

You can bellyache about not liking the burnt orange accents, but some people do and find the original IBM color palette boring and limited.

The whinging in this thread motivates me!
