Model M binding on the spacebar

Hey again,

Is there any way to fix binding on the spacebar? I'm not sure of the state of the stabilizer on the board i just received. I can see it moving with the spacebar, but it doesn't seem to stabilize the left side. Which is pretty unfortunate for me as I use my left thumb to hit the spacebar mostly.

Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks again.

Remove the C, V, comma, and period keys to reveal the tracks in which the stabilizer wire engages. Remove the left Alt key as well, it may simply be that the wire is unclipped from the bottom of the spacebar.

If that's not it, remove more of the adjacent caps to see if there's anything visible from the top of the assembly.

A displaced flipper might be another possibility, so you might need to remove the spacebar altogether to look in the barrel.

I have one that binds on the right, because the left stabilizer clip has broken off the plastic plate. Sounds like you've got a similar problem, but @Darkshado's advice will sort it out for sure.

I'm planning to just glue in a small plastic or metal tab as close in size to the original as I can find.

A 7/16" SAE washer will drop over the barrel and work pretty well.

I never would have thought of that, but it makes sense - thank you! :D

It worked! My fingers and college papers thank you!

On another note, another model M of mine is having an issue where the spacebar gets stuck on the downstroke. I replaced the spring and fixed the stabilizer, but to no avail. Any ideas?

You're welcome :D So... What was the problem?

As for the second, I'm not sure: broken rivets causing the spring or flipper to misbehave? Contamination inside the barrel causing additional friction?

Turns out the stabilizer somehow got off it's track :s

I'm guessing it could be either of those. I mean, I did get the model m for 13 bucks on eBay, which is very uncharacteristic of the site. Too good to be true, even
