I like the Cherry G84-4400PBGB-0: it comes with 83 keys, US layout, built-in trackball with 2 buttons, and PS/2 protocol. I'd also like to hear some feedback, and even about the built-in trackball.

thanks :D

Too scratchy switches and trackball for my taste.

Bad, yes. Cost efficient, no. For ML switches, you don’t want to be paying more than 40€ all in, even if the layout and form factor are appealing. >100 and you’re up in real keyboard territory.

I think the ML switches REALLY have to be your thing. Personally, I can't stand the little fuckers.

You heard us Ivey, stop talking yourself into it! No way is this board worth the money.

I haven't understood your comment.
I don't need the keyboard for gaming if it's what you meant.

He hates the switches. I think they are pretty awful too.

ah, that comment of mine in that topic. I thought it was more appropriate opening a dedicated topic specific for the G84-4400 rather than commenting on that one, useful to hear more than one opinions :D

Besides feeling scratchy, the switches can bind horribly if you don't press them dead-on centre. That is why many of the keys on the keyboard are "stepped": with a 1×1 key and flats to the left and right. The other wide keys have additional stabilisers wires to avoid that.

By the way, the keys on the G84 series keyboards are also a little bit smaller than standard.

Thanks, guys. My friend was considering buying a new keyboard from Amazon, but since it's not worth with the money it costs, well ... there is a G84 for 35 euro in the UK, second hand + 15 S/H, and this price *might* be acceptable considering that he needs a very small PS/2 keyboard with a built-in TrackPoint/TrackBall.

Oh, about that, What about the built-in trackball? What have I to report him?

found this video that shows what you mean with "scratchy". The dude in the video says the CHERRY G84-4100 can be better if you lube the switches, and he shows the difference, with and without lube.

p.s.
The G84-4100 is listed here at 56 Euro shipped, so ... comparing with G84-4400 there is about 60 euro of difference, and ... is it all for the built-in trackball? bah ...

I wonder if the integrated trackball is really of 500 DPI ...
