Dead Apple Extended Keyboard II?

Hi,
I'm new to alps/vintage apple but I was interested and bought an untested AEKII board in great condition off eBay. I've disassembled and cleaned it to the best of my ability and it seems to be intact (no liquid damage, no syrupy mess) and there are only a couple of switches that are a little bit scratchy. I have not soaked it in iPrOH. However, when I plugged it into the converter (I'm using a drakware adb2usb) the only thing that happens is the 3 leds flash briefly and no key presses are registered.
Has anyone had experience with this issue? I looked reasonably hard through googling and reading forums but I may have missed something. There seem to be a lot of potential points of failure for this and I'm not really sure where to start.
For troubleshooting's sake the complete setup is an AEKII plugged into a new s-video cable, plugged into the adapter, plugged into a micro-usb cable that I know can transmit data, plugged into an old MacBook air.
