Ideas for simple flat G80-3000 case?

I enjoy typing on my Cherry G80-3000 with browns, but I really miss the flatness of my old Logitech Illuminated. That is a pleasant keyboard to type on because of how comfortably your hands rest.
I want to replace the case of the Cherry so that it lies as flat as possible. I am considering just cutting a piece of plexiglass or some such to the right size, putting some foam on top, and letting the PCB rest on it. I could probably get a second piece cut to match the top of the Cherry case.
Do you guys have any great (and cheap) ideas for how flatten out my cherry without putting the PCB in too much danger? Is it true that the KBC Poker just sits in it's case without any special support? The inside of a Cherry case has some horizontal lines that the PCB rests on without stressing the solder joints.

cardboard works,
ps. the pcb should be supported by something or it will bend a lot
ps2. take a look at ceesas naked boards, they should be somewhere in the workshop section

You can make one in wood really easy, just buy a piece, cut it out to the right lengdth, and use some sandpaper to make the finish smooth, all done, and youre problems are gone.
I had the exact same problem since I came from logitech ultraflatX keyboards before I started to buy mechanical ones.

Thanks for the replies guys.
RE: G80-3800. I think that i would really enjoy that. I guess that I really am from the laptop generation with my love of low profile keys. Maybe I'll just snatch up some of the keycaps at some point. The PCB can't be any thinner.
In the short term it probably really is best to go with a wrist rest. I'm trying a ghetto one at the moment - my QCK+ with some DVDs under it. It is working ok but not yet ideal. What I don't like about wrist rests though is that it's a pain to have another thing to reposition along with the keyboard. I guess that I should semi attach a wrist rest . Perhaps it can be a dust cover at night.
I thought that I had salvaged the metal plate from some Cherry MY boards but now I can't find them. They would have been nice for PCB protection, on top of some cardboard. I'll keep looking anyway.
I'm about to start writing up my thesis so I'm narrowing in on my favourite switch and typing setup. I'll probably need to wait until I'm in my Dad's workshop back in Australia. I can probably convince him to make me some nice cases with his retiree free time.

If you like laptop keyboards why not get an Apple wireless keyboard?
Ripster praises them from here to King's Landing and I'm quite fond of my macbook keyboard and may try it as well.

That looks amazing, have to get one to try out if I still love flat keys as much as I think I do, right now I cant stand the rubberdomes on flat key keyboards and I cant stand the height of mechanical keyboards, but have adapted to it.Ascaii wrote:You might actually one of the people that would enjoy the new g80-3800 from Cherry...check out the review by sixty:

I'll have a bit of a look but for laptop style my Logitech Illuminated fit the bill pretty well. Mechanicals suit my modder personality much better though and I do very appreciate not having to bottom out. It's a treat.
With Cherry keycaps the height of the PCB alone (+keys+ is not so significant. If I can get some metal backing I'm pretty confident that a low profile case could be made. It's something that I should probably leave until after my PhD is finished in a few months, though. I get distracted by all my half finished side projects.

Whatever facilitates this posture :
http://ergo.human.cornell.edu/AHTutoria ... sture.html
Point being that it's not necessarily a matter of how the case is made or how the keys are staggered.
A lot can be achieved simply by arranging your workspace to suit your needs, based on long-time proven ergonomic principles.
(That posture BTW is not so different from what a good piano-teacher will try to train you to..)
