Here a test I made with a decibel meter between Kailh BOX Jade and IBM Model M.
In bonus, I tested a old IBM Selectric II typewriter! :P

Interesting test but for relevant results you'd probably need some normalised mechanical fingers:
a) hitting the keys with the same speed and force
b) hitting the keys just to actuate (according to switch specs)

and/or a group of typists
c) letting all of them type on both keyboards in a random order and averaging the results

But thanks for sharing this. :)

For the best comparison you should put them in a similar chassis to the Model M.

Also for more accurate comparison you can try measuring from a set distance, preferably with the microphone not touching the desk

the model M also varies in loudness trough the years it had been produced but only by a margin. the older ones i have, have the pinging sound of the springs and not as loose fit keys as the later ones witch does not have the spring ping. the older ones seem quieter than the later produce from my experience

You should also compare the model M with Kailh's newer Arctic Fox switches.
They are clickbar switches with a polycarbonate housing.
It seems they are even louder than the jade switches.

Are switch manufacturers having a competition at this point? :P
