It was great fun to watch the auction and all, but seriously :
2500 USD for a USED Cherry-board ??

I object to my hobby being used to settle whatever-transaction it was they settled there !

A USED G80-5000 is worth 2500 USD ??
Get the fuck out of my life !!

Everybody knows it is only worth a little more than 100 EUR. If they only knew ...

$2500 is quite a lot more than the prototype with missing keys.

@ Dirge ..
No, I will not post the link, it was the same seller that had 4, sold for the same as a crappy
2-room flat in old East-Berlin .

Seriously guys, what's up with those 2500USD boards ?
I'm seriously concerned about this, since that price went public EVERYTHING keyboard-related I've imported
got customs-processed ! At significant expense to me ..

I wonder when it was you bought "a crappy 2-room flat in old East-Berlin" for 2500USD.
Want to sell with huge profit? I'm interested

You didn't see that auction, did you ?

4 USED G80-5000 ended up selling for 8.7something K USD !
I could have gotten a crappy flat in old East-Berlin, several years after the Wall was knocked down,
for less . Even a Trabi was cheaper :)

I was not offering to buy a keyboard, but the "crappy 2-room flat in old East-Berlin" you had bought for 2500USD

And since you are just repeating you find a price of 2500USD for a "USED" keyboard to be insane,
let me quote what we posted before:

Peter wrote:[...] Besides, we are WAY beyond normal economic theory here, 2500USD for a USED keyboard that cost 170€ when new ?
This is either silly or it's something entirely different ..
A Ford Model T ("Tin Lizzy") cost 440$ in 1915.

I would pay 1000$ for a used one without the slightest hesitation

By the way, a stamp which cost 2 pence when new is now worth about 137,500£.

2500 dollars for a USED keyboard ?
What's next, Gold-plated usb-cables has faster NKRO than standard USB-cables ?

The stamp-comparison is beyond stupid :
If 4 of those insanely rare stamps turned up one place and 3 in another place ..
ONE wouldn't sell for 2500USD and the other for 102 Euro !

Unless you think the cardboard-box is rarer than artist-sheit !

(the two members here who are getting the boards don't seem to complain about anything ..)

This is only because Americans don't collect ISO stamps, only ANSI stamps, which are more seldom if it comes to stamps of the G80-5000 series.

On the other hand, Mauritian keyboards are collected by everyone who is into keyboards, so the prices will be about the same worldwide.

What about the Ford Model T comparison?
They do sell for far more than it did cost when new.
I don't think prices for them are the same everywhere and at all times.
And there will be a lot of people who wouldn't dream of using them,
and still will be spending an awful lot of money on them.

If you are just unable to understand the passion behind all that,
why don't you just accept it without understanding it?

Americans don't collect stamps anymore after becoming the worlds only superpower it is irrelevant what forreignor's stamps look like.

We collect ClickClack keys instead.

It isn't silly at all to compare it to rare stamps, because with both the high prices are paid because they are collector's items. Complaining about build quality is indeed complaining about the price of a stamp because it's just paper an ink.

I don't get the whole argument anyway. Two guys bid very high on items, because they wanted them, and one could afford to outbid the other. So what. What gives? There is a lot of unjustified and unspecified entitlement here. What is it you feel entitled to, and why?

It is even worse!

At markplaats.nl you can buy a NIB US-layout for 15 EUR compared to $2500 @ ebay.com .

This is the formula to calculate the original price you had to pay in the 1990s:
sqrt(15*2500/1.25)/0.5113
== 338.75 DM

'Solid silver-plated'.... Say what? Oh well, at least the plating is solid silver (beats hollow silver plating i guess).

Silver cutlery is way less expensive!

Also, if at all it should be gold-plated, so it does not corrode!

Still wonder about the Vodka think.

Welcome to the world of collecting, Peter.
I know of people who would pay up to $400 USD for the right type of banged-up, used faucet knob.

Good to see that you have not been bitten by the bug.

Which would still deprive those people that are not collectors from having a nice faucet knob that would actually be used instead of gathering dust....
