And thus a potential winner was eliminated!

*HaaTa decided not to nominate the really obscure switches*

So Topre is ahead of Cherry MX reds, interesting.

A year and a half ago I might've voted for MX Reds, but I've found Linears better since.

Which ones?

  • Fujitsu Leaf Spring (they also come in a click/tactile variety, but I've yet to try one)
  • Burroughs Optical
  • Clean Honeywell Hall Effect
  • Clean Vintage ALPs (old green stems)
The Fujitsu Leaf Spring sliders hold up to dust/dirt/grime quite well, and tend to be a lot smoother than Cherry switches. My most recent acquisition even has greased sliders, with rubber gaskets (and rubber pads), and a faint click noise.

Mind you, the Hall Effect and Vintage ALPs are more MX Black equivalents. The Burroughs is a weird, as the force decreases right at the end.

There's also the modified MYs that I did (20g I think), based off a Geekhack mod earlier this year. Definitely an improvement on feel with just the leaf spring. But probably a little too light for most (just like the 30g Topre is too light as well).

I have a few others that might qualify as better linears, haven't built a controller yet to try them out for a significant length of time.

Although I really like the red and blue switches, I had to go with my ultimate love for cherry browns. Light and tactile my favorite switch for everyday use!

I've recently fallen in love with Cherry reds ... but I have a couple of Topre based boards in transit so that might change :)
