Hey all you Euro DT members, are you interested in trying an Ergodox for a couple of weeks?

Well, I'm planning to send my less loved Ergodox on a tour around Europe to anyone who qualifies and wants to try a couple of weeks with an Ergodox (not more than 3).
The entry requirements are:
  • Have an account created before this post
  • Have posted at least 15 times
  • Be willing to pay for tracked shipping to another user in the EU
And that's it!
I will add people as they register interest and when we have 5+, or after a certain amount of time, I will send it to the first person. After that it's up to you to check who's next on the list and make sure it gets to them in one piece.

The keyboard will come with PBT DSA blanks, feel free to swap them out for your own keycaps for your turn. It also comes with Gateron brown switches, you're allowed to swap them out if you know what you're doing and you put the browns back in before sending it to the next person! You can also flash it with whatever keymap you like, but again you gotta know what you're doing, and please don't put malware on it ;)

So a quick note on programming this board: because I'm a cheap bastard I bought the kit from Taobao, it actually came with a counterfeit teensy. So you need to use this teensy loader instead of the normal one. Sorry for all of you on non-Windows computers, if this is a big enough problem for you to not be interested in the keyboard, anymore then let me know and I can take you off the list.

Tour list so far:
  • PollandAkuma (UK)
  • pansku (Finland)
  • fruitalgorithm (Germany)
  • IjonTichy (Germany)
  • Daniel (Germany)
  • Rimrul (Germany)
  • Hook (Slovenia)
  • RaleghDirat (Portugal)
  • AdrianMan (Romania)
  • Lustique (Germany)<---- Here now

If you have other keycaps feel free to throw them on there! You can even change the keymap, I really don't mind about that.
They are Gateron browns, so pretty much middle of the road ;)

Totally agree, do you know of any solution that can be retro fitted to the ergodox?
PollandAkuma wrote: I would love to try it! What's the timing gonna be like though?
Great, I have put you on the list!
Erm, well we actually have enough people to get it started! I can add people as it travels.

Just need to get the order of the list settled, can someone in Germany volunteer to be the one to pay the extra and send it internationally?

Yea, I have a solution. I used M2 or M3 threated-stabs and cut them by hand.

I will upload a pic today..

Sounds interesting, looking forward to the pic!

I bought this one last year and the original listing that I bought it from no longer exists. The closest kit I have seen has been this one.
It's the same seller as I used for mine but mine came with just the parts and I had to solder everything myself. Mine also cost 450CNY at the time.

I have flashed this keymap to the keyboard, so it should be pretty much stock!

450?= 60€…
Thats a good price, if it includes a case. will look into it, I feel like doing another nice build..

Yeah the original kit was a good price and came with the case. The pre-assembled kit that I linked is unfortunately more at 580CNY = 75EUR.

Just be warned about the counterfeit teensy, you might have to: replace it with a genuine one, use the utility I linked, or reflash the bootloader with a USBISP.

I hope the tenting is visible.

And please ignore the weird mix of Cherry and SA caps. thats just for testing.

Ah yeah that's a pretty simple solution! Shame I don't have space on this case design, if I was to drill a hole I would most probably hit PCB.

I guess a solution in my case would be to have some sort of frame to put it in to angle it. Probably not worth it as I barely use the keyboard as it is.

I did not drill holes - it is the defailt way the 'OG Dox by massdrop' is.

Actually I am thinking about how I can emulate the tenting of the ergodox ez for my mitosis once its finished

Ah yeah I had a look at the original Massdrop Ergodox and that all makes sense now.

Yeah the nice thing about the tenting on the Ergodox EZ is that it's so easy to adjust and adds very little bulk to the keyboard.
I've seen a couple of people use Kinesis stands for their Ergodox, but they seem to be pretty expensive for what they are.

do you know about 'a 90-degree-adapter for screws'?
if I find a nice option the ergodoy ez tenting solution can be copied rather easy

So the keyboard is now in transit to PollandAkuma!

Places are still open so feel free to post here if you want to be added to the list.

I'd be interested in trying it out if it weights less than 2kg packed. After that point the shipping costs shoot up by like 10€ to most counties in EU :(

Posted: 31 May 2017, 19:38
by Stabilized
When I sent it out it was just over 1kg, so let's say 1.1kg. Let me know if you're still interested and I'll sitck you on the list.

That's actually pretty lightweight, add me to the list :D

Great, I've added you to the list!

BTW if you have any preference about where you go in the list (or if anyone else does for that matter), let me know ;)

Best spot would be either at the beginning of the summer or the end of summer as I will move sometime in July (I just got accepted for EE bachelors/masters programme in Aalto University :D ) and next in line would be in central or northern europe.
