Yeah, I've been trying to post more photos here
but it seems that my network provider just does not keen with DT server location
Even took me multiple tries to post one reply here, not sure why (keep getting timeout)
Gonna try with VPN later tonight
Where are you?

Even in the US I don't have an issue with DT. Also load(ed) far faster than GH did.

GH being down is making me want to participate in the hobby even more. I miss the place for keyboard, media, and OT posting all the same.

I totally feel the same way! For me I think the concept of going through a shared experience, even though it is a negative one, has made me more willing to participate. Sounds kinda sad, I know. I'm still working on this whole "be social" thing.

I've been steadily improving. Little by little. And I say "Hi!" back. :)

See, the keyboard hobby is great! Who would give this up?!?

found my endgame and its in transit, so sort of, yeah. but still enjoy the community of everyone on both forums, so might still look up keyboard porn every now and then.

Temporary endgame. I've fallen for my own sales pitch a few times that way. It doesn't last. Variety is life. And once you shake off MX and seek vintage variety, you've a long long road ahead of you.

I think I'm on about my 4th endgame board at this point and I've got the parts to build my 5th sat on my desk at the moment.

Endgame is a lie.

Too right

I mean, I went from a 122 F as my "almost endgame" board, then to a Matias Tactile Pro (which is now out of service due to a bad USB cable (and Matias has said that the cables are now soldered, so they couldn't even sell me a replacement), I need to make an adapter so I can use replaceable USB cables on it), and then I got an IBM 5155 (which has the aluminum version of the XT F), and holy crap is that amazing feeling, but at the same time, holy crap is that a horrible layout.

And, really, I don't think I've ever found a true endgame board, because I want a TrackPoint IV.

Looks like Geekhack is down again lol. Alps switches are definitely my favorite. Anyone know of anyone backlight compatible Alps boards? Not necessarily to shine through caps since SKCM don't have LED cutouts but at least for the "bleed" effect?

There's that Duck 60% that I can't recall the name of that always pops up when people talk about Matias switches and backlighting and I think that's more or less it. Maybe the V60m (I think that's what it's called)? I'm not sure if they've released a backlight version of it...

I think for that you are going to have to make your own.

If i remember correctly filco did a alps board at some point , you could grab that and put matias switches in it as they are clear and then add some LED strips between the plate and PCB

by jbondeson
You'd also be limited to switches without the click plate.

My thought would be SMD LEDs on the PCB. If you want some nice diffusion you could use a polycarbonate plate and/or case.

That ought to be quite pretty. If leak is really what you're after. Matias switches are great light guides, but Matias themselves just plain don't make use for them for aesthetics. Only lock lights.

THey do tho. They put it on there site that they support RBG out of the box and cherry copied them

Support. But then do bugger all to actually use it. I think it's a marketing gimmick. Use them or stop bragging already!

Yeah I know Matias has shine through but I'm wanting to use SKCM anyways.

Understandable. I wish Matias felt as finessed as complicated Alps. But, those transparent bodies: not Alps.

could you not transplant the complicated Alps into the matias case ?

Posted: 02 Jul 2015, 21:08
by jbondeson
Complicated and simplified alps use the same casing, so I think that's theoretically possible, but holy shit that's a lot of work.

The complicated alps have 12 parts inside to transplant :o Only the dedicated need apply.

I for one would love to see someone try that. Someone else!

Posted: 02 Jul 2015, 21:25

I love how modable matias and simplified alps are

I mean i can make black alps not shit be removing the tactile leaf

Or you can make damped clicky switches ( i think they make them now) or none damped tactile

I want to get into ALPS but they seem very light. Sprit has stiffer Alps / Matias springs and I'd be willing to give them a go.
