Get a new battery for it (mine needs it too) and make it into a digital notetaking device or something.

I bought this accidentally. I thought I was buying a standard black Rosewill with MX Browns but instead I ended up with the white model with custom rainbow keys. I bought it locally with a couple other boards and I forgot to open the box. I opened up some others but they didn't have the switches I wanted. Too bad it is missing a couple keys.

I also bought this neat Model M with some interesting terminal emulation keys. I've only seen one other like it.

Found this on ebay for $12, Cherry MX Blacks and a few missing keys. I'll just put on a new keyset and good as new, right?

Well apparently, the keyboard uses rubber domes for everything except the numpad...

Just got a message from DHL Express I needed to pay taxes on a shipment I never received a shipping mail about from the vendor. Contacted DHL and it seems to be from ETB Company in Hong Kong. After some searching through my orders it can only be English TaoBao.

That means my dream Topre Anniversary 55g is coming in tomorrow. I never paid import taxes so quickly! :D

Holy moly, I ordered that thing a while ago never being sure their stock wasn't a mistake and not knowing if I would ever get it. They seem to have a lot of variable weight ones in stock but they only had one ANSI 55g.

Preciousssss ....

Can't resist to post a stock picture.

Yesterday my dad said that they have an old metal backplate keyboard, and I got super excited that it was gonna be something good, but nope, it was an Acer rubber dome (and a shitty logitech that had the plastic snapped when it fell off my chair. :( :( I ripped out the controller boards out of them for the LEDs , the capacitors and the cables, and the rest is going to the trash.

I wish they had some gem keyboard.

A few days ago I won an auction on ebay.de for a lot of about 10 keyboards, 3 of which I knew to be interesting, namely a G81 SAD, G80 3k HAD and G81 LAD. I expected all the others to be contemporary rubberdomes, so I was glad it stayed below 40 euro shipped. However when the package arrived yesterday I was positively surprised by 2 other keyboards which are even more interesting than what I hoped to get in the first place: A Dual Data branded G81-3090HAF (aka Schneider MF2) with German dyesubs, and a Simens Nixdorf branded G80-1129HPD.

I received the Realforce 87U 55g 10th Anniversary edition today.
It is branded Leopold. I thought it would be branded Topre.
Or is that the same company in Japan?

All Realforces are made by Topre in their Sagamihara plant. The only example of foreign-made parts that I am aware of are the double-shot ABS keycaps used on the Realforce RGB.

Leopold is simply a Korean distributor who worked with Topre to produce specific exclusive models. They're not the same company, and if you open your Realforce you will indeed see Topre branding on the PCB. Other distributors have done this and you will see their stickers / branding on the back of the keyboard, or the box. Examples are 'ark-pc' in Japan, and even EliteKeyboards in North America had exclusive models produced in the past (e.g. the EK-45).

Some go further again and have their name added on the front of the keyboard, either completely replacing the 'REALFORCE' branding (e.g. DHARMAPOINT) or sitting along-side it (e.g. JUST SYSTEMS x REALFORCE).

Yep, I knew about Leopold being the Korean distributor but I was under the impression that:
- they only branded the FC660C as "Leopold"
- the 10th Anniversary only eexisted branded as "Topre"
So I was a bit amazed when my 10th Anniversqry came in with a sticcker on the bottom of the Leopold brand.
The model number on the sticker the Topre 10th Anniversary 55g though.

In any case, really nice keyboard with nice and colored keycaps, best switches I've ever tried, a bit heavier than those of the FC660C but I like both. Both are definitely heavier than the 45g's on the Realforce 23U and Realforce RGB and there's even a difference between those two but that might be due to the caps.

I am pretty sure that all of the US ANSI 10th Anniversary keyboards were ordered by Leopold. Funnily enough in 3 years time, these keyboards will be as old as the anniversary they are celebrating. I'm surprised they've kept making and selling them for so long.

The FC660C and FC980C are basically the equivalent of what Fujitsu / PFU did with the HHKB, or what Cooler Master did with the NovaTouch TKL. They were probably directing the design and features and Topre just made it to their specifications (within reason, I'm sure).

Don't think tey're still making them, had trouble finding just one BNIB 55g and it was expensive.
Quite a bunch of variable weight ones though.

andrewjoy wrote: I always did wonder, if topre made the novatouch, why the rattle ?
I didn't feel that my NovaTouch was rattly. The differences I noticed with mine were that the sliders were slightly more scratchy and required lubing, and the stabilisers didn't feel as nice. I think both of these things were at least partially addressed for the Realforce RGB as it does feel nicer but still different to a normal Realforce which I am putting down largely to how tightly standard Topre keycaps couple with the slider, but I'm sure there are other factors at play (mould differences etc.)

Oh yeah the 87U 55g English model is sold out but they still sell the Hangul printed ones and full-size 45g English models. Where did you get yours?

I got the 87U 55g ANSI 19th Anniversary from English TaoBao.
Came with labeled red Escape, switchable CapsLock/Control and lavender WASD keys as extras caps.
There was only one left in stock but I see now it still says one.
They have heaps of the other versions on the same page though.

My first contact (no pun intented) with plate springs :D These are super weird as they feel so, delicate, yet the actuation is crisp.

I sure have a lot of work to do for figuring out the layout for conversion. As of now there is no "Ä" to be found, instead there is "ö" and "Ö" where "ä" and "ö" should be and the only Ctrl is at bottom right. The computer also makes a funny beep every time an odd key is pressed  Not to mention the sound of switches themselves.

edit:      Shift + "7" is "ä" and all of a sudden Shift + "2" is "Ä"
