Oh I totally overread that ANSI statement. Well sounds fair, is there an overview of the available molds for doubleshot legends?

10k is ridiculous for a new mold. That will never pay off in the enthusiasts market. GMK is just making new doubleshot molds at a slightly increased charge per keycap at a 150MOQ. No new keycap sizes there though, probably alot easier when you're just making legends ...

K series is non profiled right? Probably the easier choice but less exciting than profiled SA. Wonder how they mix with SA profile ... row 3 then?

If they can do cheap & custom laser jobs, offering popular layout from their existing molds and then allow users to pick their own legends for lasering would be cool. just cover stuff like Poker, MX-HHKB, Infinity and Planck and you're gonna have orders trickling in.

I would rather be interested in a Q series set, since these thick caps look amazing. And maybe some DSA 6.25 spacebars from SP are a bit easier to order I guess ?

From the groupbuy status page on Mechsupply:

"Devlin Sampler Pack (May 2016 - ETA July 2016)
Shipping!"

Can't wait to get a good look at these babies! :D

I just received an email stating:

"There was a slight miscalculation on Devlin's side and instead of including red J-Series keycaps with a lasered Esc legend, instead I have recieved the same key but in K-Series."

This makes the pack so much better - I was only interested in K and Q anyway. I basically read it like "there was a bank error in your favour..."

Mine arrived today! The laser etched ones aren't great IMO, they lack clarity and appear a little rough. However, the J series key look brilliant. The doubleshot ESC legend looks great in the bold test and the pastel blue shades are really cool. My random blank key is a grey/green colour and would look awesome as modifiers with white or cyan alphas.

I think you mean Q series, the J series key was replaced with a K-series key :D

The next group-buy I do for Devlin will be for a full ANSI Q-series double-shot set! Also I'll do a K-series and Z-series planck keyset group-buy at the same time!

Oops, yeah that's what I meant. Planck set sounds great. I assume they don't offer ISO keys then?

The only unique size ISO key is the enter, and they have no mould for it currently. If future Devlin GB's are successful then I might pay for one on their behalf (expensive!)

Mine arrived aver the weekend. Overall impression is pretty positive, I definitely like the thickness, they feel very substantial next to the similarly profiled offerings from SP. However, I do have some (hopefully constructive) criticisms about these caps:

* Firstly about the laser-etched legends, I don't have much positive about them, they are a but uneven, and the texture is like charred plastic (that's because it is lol), in general a bit unpleasant to type on. They don't look bad from a distance, but up close they are a bit disapointing, it's definitely not somthing you would want on your alpha keys. On less often used keys, I guess it could be OK. I don't think there's anything you can do about this, as it's just inherent to laser-etching, but perhaps there's ways to tweak the process to produce more even and less rough-feeling legends.

* Secondly, I think the surface finish on these caps is a slight step below SP caps. They have a noticably rougher texture, and they are uneven (like towards edges, you can see the texture sorta 'stretches out', you can see the grains get further apart. I don't know if this is a quirk with Devlin's production line or if there's some tweaks they can do to their tooling to improve surface finish.

* Lastly, the caps have noticable rough edges where the mould lines are, and if you run your fingertip across them, you can detect the line quite clearly (there's a bit of sharp burrs around this area). This is a minor point, nothing a gentle sanding can't fix.

Overall though, it's pretty positive, especially the double-shot cap. Very sharp legend, no noticable gaps between the legends and the surface of the cap itself. It's nice to see something very different from SP's current offerings, and I look forward to seeing some group buys with this in the future!

I'll be honest - I was a little disappointed with the laser marking too. Very happy with the double-shots and will be having lots more double-shot GB's. I think I'll bench the laser marking for now.

Looking forward to supporting your future group buys! :D

why put the images in a different order than the poll options? I know i'm nitpicking right now but I almost voted for the wrong thing

Well, Skidata, obviously :D

Not everyone likes green and three out of four feature green...

Dra, dunno what you mean, to me everything seemed in the right order.

3) Monthly (or every 2 months - or longer!) 'design your own Planck' sets, lasered legends only. Pay a set amount for a completely custom Planck set, use any font you want, choose from list of colours, any layout, any design etc. Basically it'll be like WASD keycap designer but for Planck and also the keycaps are high quality, thick and the legends are lasered.
Is this still a possibility? I know people haven't been too impressed with the lasered legends, but I'm trying to figure out my options, and if I can get custom lasered keys in the same profile/colour as one of the group buy sets, like Rad-Away, that'd be preferable to getting relegendables from SP for my media and macro keys.

Also, is white a possible custom legend colour?

Not for laser I wouldn't think, only doubleshots or printed.

I'm looking forward to my Rad Away & look forward to supporting more Mech Supply UK sets. I'm behind seeing, we can make donations to Devlin for addition mold sizes. Main benefit, is they'd be able to handle sets for all layouts & it'd cheaper than buying from GMK or SP.

Someone should take some decent photos for this page:

[wiki]Devlin Q series[/wiki]

I was meant to get some samples from Devlin, but that never happened, and these went out of stock before I saw them. The ones on the wiki now are the engraved version.

(I'd add them to the page if I could ever get hold of the stupid wretched things.)
