Thankfully, yes, tofagerl. All the BLUE, CADET, and SPH (grey) caps are in phase 1. While the Cadet colors are not the bulk of my order, they are nevertheless the most important to me, which is why I am thankful they are phase 1.

I don't think this is necessarily a failure of etiquette, to be honest. After all, they don't need to tell us the keycaps are delayed; that is pretty self-evident. If you're hoping that SP will provide a new delivery date, well, I think you are hoping in vain. I doubt even SP themselves know when they will be done with the corrections. An estimate from them wouldn't even be a "best guess", and therefore next to useless.

It's customary to let the client know when a delay has been extended. It's a bit of stating the obvious, but it's just a polite way of letting the client know that you're still working and they are still a priority. Nobody likes radio silence.

It may be customary, but in this case it is mostly a pointless custom. If delays of this kind were unusual for SP, then it would make sense to explain to customers why there are unforseen delays. But 7bit (and anyone who has ever been part of a 7bit GB for SP caps) knows this is just par for the course. Long annoying delays are the norm. Confirmation that everything is proceeding according to expected norms hardly warrants notification.

OK, again... it's a courtesy. Things which are courteous, polite, and customary often don't make practical sense. They exist to address the emotional needs of the receiving party and to meet or exceed their expectations of service.

I know why they exist. I just don't know why anyone expects them from SP given what we already know about how they communicate and interact with the community in general. More importantly, I don't know why anyone complains about it here, where it is guaranteed to have zero constructive impact on the thing being complained about.

Got my Round 5 leftovers in the mail over the weekend! Finally put them on my Planck (with my daughter's help) last night. Really love the feel of these SA keys. This is definitely NOT the final arrangement, but at least I was able to get enough keys to cover the whole board.

The only possibility for another manufacturer enter the SA game would be buying the french CompTec molds, but I don't think that will happen.

There is also Matt3o's efforts to create a modern "beamspring" style high-profile spherical keycap family in PBT. Of course it will be dye-sub and not double-shot, but it is an interesting project nevertheless.

The market for sphericals is so small I'm amazed that anybody, even SP, bothers to cater to it at all. Clearly the sudden surge in interest, thanks primarily to MassDrop, has been keeping SP's machines busier than ever. But how long will this rennaissance last, I wonder? I figure I should get all my SA keycaps now while I can...

Very interesting. Note those row 3 shifts though - lol-worthy. I assume that's a sign of "not ready for market," but still, coincidentally funny, given the historical trouble with SP's SA shifts. (And it looks like their Tab key is the wrong row too, anyway.)
