As a collectible item: 100 or maby even more EUR.
As a collectible item: There is no SUN-logo on it, so it is just a CherryMX-keyboard with bad key caps and does not work with a PC out of the box.
For use: Get a Focus with a similar layout, but better switches
For use: Get a much cheaper G80-2550 or G80-2551.

For the SUN keyboard to be realistic... I think maybe 30-60EUR... but that is mostly depending on finding a SUN SPARC user that want's a keyboard that doesn't feel like shit. It is a nice board, and I was eying one at some point awhile ago when I found some on TaoBao for like $20-30... but SUN adapters are expensive, and building one takes a certain set of skills which may make it otherwise unappealing to many potential buyers.

hwood34... I think those are worth maybe $1-4 on ebay. But they are just sliders over domes so it would probably take awhile to even sell them there.

I purchased 2 sets of modifier keys (6 keys/set) for topre RealForce boards a while ago. I know they aren't made anymore.

They are barely used. Green and Orange.

How much are they worth?

G'day all from Australia. I'm fascinated to discover that there is actually a community of folks interested in these beautifully engineered old keyboards!

Having worked as a PC specialist between 1982 and 2000, I witnessed first hand the gradual cheapening of keyboard manufacture. I also came across a few unusual keyboards during that time. One in particular that I kept is a Cherry G81-3100SAU / 04. Besides having a nice feel, this keyboard also has an integrated magnetic card reader. It's fun to be able to swipe credit cards and see what's encoded thereon!

I'm guessing that this would be rarer than most ordinary keyboards of that era? The low serial number (000342) gives some indication. Any ideas what this is worth? It's in absolutely pristine condition.

Aussiegeek, that keyboard has original Cherry ANSI dyesubs. The keyboard itself is worth very little since it's a G81 (MY switches that are considered terrible by most people), but the keycaps are MX compatible and are considered to be the very best. I'm very interested in buying it if you're looking to sell it. I won't give you an exact price check, since it might be a bit biased, but you're looking at around $200-300+ depending on how much use it's seen/the condition/whether the box is included/etc. Please do get in touch if you'd like to sell it. I've been looking for months for a board similar to that.

Also, if you want an exact price check you should specify :

Does it come with the box?
Are there ANY marks/scratches/etc?
How much use has it seen? < this is important since dyesubs to tend to fade a little after a lot of use.

Hey, photekq, thanks for your reply.

You have me amazed that the keyboard itself appears to be of less interest than the keycaps! That said, if I knew that it was going to a good home anyway, I'd possibly consider selling. I'd just miss the ability to read magnetic stripes.

To answer your questions: No, I don't have a box. There are NO marks/scratches. It has obviously seen almost zero use. Even the mag-stripe reader, where you'd expect to see scratches from swiping, is immaculate. Any tiny specks of surface dirt probably came about during storage and will be a cinch for me to remove with a damp cloth. Hardly any dust between the keys. Color is as original as I remember for new keyboards of that era: a slightly greenish-beige body with off-white and grey keycaps. I've seen many a grungy old keyboard in my time, but this is *NOT* one of them. I'd certainly be interested in your opinion as to its value.

Great, thanks for that. /04 has green 'sys rq' text, just like /08 (but unlike /11 which has black 'sys rq' text), as I thought it would..

Wondering if someone could help me with a price on my beige Filco TKL (ANSI layout).

Board features:-

MX Black switches with 45g springs from Originative
Stainless steel plate
Digital Camo replacement cable
Macross DSA caps

Bearing in mind the above mods and included keycaps, how much could I expect? All the keycaps were soaked and thoroughly cleaned before the pics were taken. Outer keyboard shell, PCB and plate are also in great condition and were cleaned too.

Thanks to all those who responded to my pricing query on my Cherry keyboard. It was very educational, and tempting. It's also nice to think that my "old friend" may find a good home in the hands of a collector. I'll respond to the PMs separately.

Prior to responding to some PMs that expressed interest in my Cherry keyboard, I decided to give it a very careful look over. In doing so, I found something surprising with the "3/PgDn" key.

Initially, it simply looked like the PgDn was worn off from excessive use. However, that doesn't make sense, for several reasons:

Firstly, the whole of the keyboard looks immaculate, with none of the usual finger grime on keys nor dust, crumbs or hairs between keys. There is no way this keyboard has been used enough to wear down *any* of the keys.

Secondly, why would either the "3" or the "PgDn" be worn when none of the more popular keys are showing any signs of wear?

Thirdly, the dye-sublimation printing on the key appears faded, yet the plastic of that key is not showing any signs of abrasion, shine or wear.

Finally, the printing only fades towards the front of the key, whereas wear is normally concentrated around the center of the key.

To me, it appears to me that this key is a factory reject!

Take a look at this close-up photo:
G81-3100SAU / 04 keyboard - Numeric keys 1, 2 and 3
G81-3100SAU / 04 keyboard - Numeric keys 1, 2 and 3
CherryKeyboard_1-2-3.jpg (74.34 KiB) Viewed 5227 times
Note how the front of the "3/PgDn" key is shorter than the adjacent "1/End" and "2" keys? It measures about 8mm high, whereas the other two measure about 9mm. (The measurement is not exact because I haven't popped off the keycaps.)

My guess is that this key may have been intended for a different keyboard, or may have been a slightly wonky injection molding. When it was subsequently dye-sub printed, the print head would not have aligned correctly with the different "slope" on the face of the key. This resulted in faint printing towards the front of the key where it was furthest from the print head. In fact, besides looking faint, it is also slightly blurry.

I'm not sure what this means for the value of this keyboard. Is it more valuable because it includes a rare factory-reject key? Or is it less valuable to someone who wants a perfect set of keycaps? Of course, if anyone has a spare "3/PgDn" keycap, the point is moot because it can be easily enough swapped.

Aussie, I think as photekq said above, I'd guess the value of that board to be $200-275. You say the overall condition is mint+, and it looks it, with the exception of the that 3/Pg Dn...which honestly is bizarre.. most likely a misprint or factory mistake.

Sending you another PM now!

Anyone got an idea of the value of my Filco?

I would appreciate if anyone would give me some estimates on a few keyboards

The first keyboard is my Model F, converted internally with a Soarer's Converter. It is in amazing shape and works flawlessly

Image
Image

The second keyboard is a NMB keyboard with the Erase-Eaze split spacebar. Again, it is in great shape and fully functional. It is PS2, but I am thinking about converting it to USB

The third and final keyboard is a Realforce 104UB-DK. It is in like new condition and has had very little use. I still have the original box for it

Thank you all for helping me value these boards

Not so much a price check as a trade check, but would a lightly used HHKB be considered worth a trade with a G80-5000 in similar condition? I'm really not getting on with the HHKB and all these 5000's popping up recently have got me interested.

In a sensible world, sure. But the 5000s seem to have inflated a lot recently. You're going to have to part exchange, if you can even find a willing seller.

Yeah, I nearly pulled the trigger on the last 2 that went up for sale but the house move made me hesitate...I'll sit on it a bit longer I guess.

Is a model f terminal bigfoot even worth anything? I'm not sure they're rare enough to make up for the lack of practicality (though I here the model F controller is going swimmingly)

Depends on where you are. Model Fs are annoyingly hard to get in Europe. :)

As an owner of SUN Workstations I can say it would be a nice addition to my collection  I have the rubber dome model and not so pleased with them .. :(
For me this keyboard would be 30-40EUR worth, not having the SUN logo is a big minus for me.

That keyboard looks great! I don't usually like "modern" keyboards, but those spherical double-shot keycaps in "Macross" colour scheme really help. I'm tempted to get something like that someday. (...as if I need any more keyboards...)

Depends on the country and local availability there. About $50 in the US... but nearly twice as much here in Czechia.
