[FS] - IBM Model F AT with USB adapter

I decided to thin up my collection a bit. Starting with this beast. I restored it few years ago, but never actually used it as it's just not my style. I can't get used to the layout and heavy space bar. Otherwise it feels amazing, smooth, springy, just like perfect condition Model F should.

I have added internal Teensy based (fully programmable) USB adapter and cable so it's ready to be used with modern PCs, but if you're a purist, I'm including original cable which can be swapped in easily without any soldering required.

If you're interested, I'm happy to send over more photos, but quite honestly you'll have hard time finding model F in such condition.

I believe it's worth €350 €300 €280, but if you think otherwise, I'm open for your offer.

You do know that you can change the layout by opening the assembly and mod the spacebar right?

Anyways, GLWS

I know it can be modded, but I think it's too valuable piece to cut the barrel plate. For me at least.

I've tried modding the spacebar, but it makes it rattly and feel weird. Would not recommend if you don't know what you're doing.

My 4980 Model F is extremely rare, but I didn't hesitate to drill holes through the assembly. :P

I mean I popped open my rare and valuable Unsaver to rearrange the barrels and add in four new key positions and now it looks like this:

I think modding adds value to boards, and if you take your time and don't force anything you will be happy with the results.

Hehe, I don't have that much confidence in myself. I'd try on some messed up piece first before attempting mod on a decent board.

Yours looks pretty sweet Redmaus!

Thanks! Sorry for hijacking the thread, but it isn't too difficult. All you need are some 2x4's and a decent set of clamps to get the job done.

I had to reopen the assembly three times because I forgot stuff. The assembly is so durable I could probably open it fifty times and it would still work the same. If you want to do some modifications yourself, you can PM me anytime for help. :D

I wish that clamp method would work on the narrower Fs... you know, clamping right near the tabs. Unfortunately, that messes up the key feel.

Really how so? How else would you do it? Clamp in the center?

I haven't found a way yet. Every foam replacement with the smaller models has been pretty awful. Because there aren't any center tabs, it's very difficult to evenly compress the foam unless it's very soft or thin. Clamping to engage the tabs bends the backplate so that it is no longer parallel with the barrel plate.

The only things that comes to mind in order to make it work would be a bolt mod, maybe three bolts along the center of the board.

With an AT that would work, but with an XT... yeah. I did try on an XT, but it didn't turn out well. I should probably invest in some extremely strong C clamps if I'm going to tackle the narrower keyboards.
