Hello,

since it's christmas soon, I want to give away my Unitek K-151N. It comes with yellow, tactile Mitsumi Miniature Mechanical switches. I've lubed them with silicon spray to improve keyfeel, based on this post here and they feel quite good now.

Build quality of this board kicks ass. Thick, coiled cable, a metal backplate and a nice case with some funky flip-out feet. Keycaps are ABS with a gorgeous print. Well, except for the numpad and some modifier keys. I used the board as a keycap donor for my K151L and almost all foreign layout prints/letterings are a mess and I left them on this one. If that bugs you too much, you can slap any old AT MX-compatible keycap set on there. Rest of the board is outstanding tho, I have been using the K151L (Mx-Switch variant, same chassis) as a daily driver for almost 5 months now.

Please mind tho that the warranty is violated since the label was broken

Really cool board! I'm curious about the lubing, though. You used WD40?
How long ago, and has the feel changed since then?

I'm asking because it was my impression that WD40 wasn't very suitable for long term lubrication, especially of plastic parts. Some of the components seem volatile, and some sound like they would be tough on the plastic? I may be wrong though.

(I'm not asking to be annoying, but actually considering the board, it's very cool )

I'm on the same page with you on that matter. I don't think WD40 is suited for lubrication, although I have no experience with deteriorative reactions together with plastic. Like I described in the thread I linked, at first I used WD40, wasn't satisfied and then used WD40 branded Silicon lubricant. So they're just silicon-lubed now, fairly standard.

As expected with that, the feeling didn't change much since April. With normal WD40 there was a change in feel after just a day. Probably because the volatile components you mentioned evaporated and left only the oily components behind. Keep in mind I didn't use the board that much, so I don't know how usage will impact key feel over time.

How the fuck have these not sold yet? This is in my opinion one of the finest MMM boards ever made! I'd get it if I didn't already have one just like it and a handful of other MMM boards of lesser quality. Coming prelubed makes it even better too. You, TNT, are too kind to the community.

I will take it, don't have a miniature and want to check whether it's as bad as Chyros said.

Also it looks fucking awesome.

Lubed, it should be good. Will be interesting to see how long the lube stands up, however. They degenerate to the Chyros experience.

After a couple of weeks of staying in Copenhagen, the brave little keyboard travels on. It is moving to Nordrhein-Westfalen, where it will live with Inozenz (who is most well-known for known for the Space Invasion, of course).
Since the keyboard is known to have a weakness for sweets, it will be bringing a small Danish snack with it - it wanted to pay homage to Inozenz for the wonderful German snacks included in the Space Invasion.

Now, my experience with the board:
Fantastic build quality. The good looks can't be denied either!
Somehow, the switches feel great when pressed individually and carefully. But I found it almost impossible to really type on them (and I do a fair bit of typing - shocker, I know). They bind quite a bit on off-center keypresses. But it was fun to try and I wish the keyboard the best of luck on its journey.

While it was here, the keyboard made friends with local animals and liked to hang out in the local square:

Don't get too excited about the snack, inozenz, it's just something small (but traditional)

But yes! We must revive the the Good Keyboard Spirit!
There was a lot of bickering here for a while, but I've convinced myself (/chosen to believe) that the good vibes are returning. I'll at least try and contribute to that if I can!

Good to know it had a nice vacation and is now, once again in loving hands back in the motherland. It's a real shame with those Mitsumis. Exactly like you said, Bjerrk. If it wasn't such a tedious task to take them apart, I would have tried whether or not some thorough greasing would fix the problem. Still, at least it's a great chassis for a custom build
