Spacebar stabs? I might have something for you. (One at least.)

I have 2 plastic stab inserts, if that's what you're looking for.

2U wires. I definitely need one, but feel I should get at least two. I am not sure if I need the plastic stab inserts but I should probably buy some too. Every time I put my M together "for the final time" I realise I'm missing something or have put it together wrong...

I'll take anyone up on these parts, PM me?

2U wires? For Backspace and Keypad Enter? Far as I remember, most Ms use none of those, keeping their only wire stab for the spacebar. Those keys (and Return and Shifts) are what stabiliser inserts are for. But I have seen a wire-stabbed early silver-badged Model M, if I remember right (proxied one long ago), and I think I recall Model Fs do have them.

If you've inserts, then wire stabs for those keys are a bit belts and braces, if you know what I mean. Not sure if they're adding anything other than more resistance. Also unsure what those keys would be like exclusively wire-stabbed; taking out the peg-stab's barrel insert. Are you experimenting?

I have not seen a wire-stabilized backspace on any M, square-badge or not (though I can't say anything about the early industrial square badge models).

But regular Enter, keypad Enter and + have them even on early grey-badge models.

I'd suspect they initially didn't trust insert stabilizers with the vertical keys due to the curvature of the board but then were forced to cut costs. And I have to agree, the wire-stabilized keys feel better than the insert stabilized ones.

You may well be right about the wire stabs being installed only on vertical keys like + and numpad Enter. It was donkeys years ago I had that nice, early silver M.

Please forgive the various mistakes I made when I last had this out...

Yes, two for the num pad, and one for the ISO enter: https://photos.app.goo.gl/BBQ5Fd3UwTeQCfRx7.

I didn't realise my M was particularly unusual! It was the first vintage keyboard I bought and have been buying parts for it ever since! As you can see, the two wires I do have are a little wonky, and I'd need one more at least. I figured I may as well get three in better condition. I pretty sure this will be the last piece of the puzzle!

I've been threatening to bring an M into my office for a year now. Tried to take the M122 but I didn't own anything outside of a damn suit case that could transport the thing!

Well, ebay seller isaacm has a couple of 2U keys available with wire stabs:

Shipping from the US doubles the price, though.
