2x Zenith | Inteq red logo z-150 + some other stuff

Hello DT Marketplace!

Image

I recently acquired 4x z-150s boards with red logos. My original plan was to use the logos for some projects I'm working on and then sell the switches to try and make back what I bought the boards for (and I know there are probably vintage purest I've already pissed off at this point - but keep reading). Unfortunately, my plan fell apart when I took apart the boards and realized that the SKCL green switches were, essentially, glued to the the mounting-plate in some fashion. It looks to me like plastic was melted on the sides of the bottom housings of the alps switches that is keeping them from being removed. Additionally, the top housings (and, in fact, the entire top of the mounting plate) was sprayed with some kind of rust-resistant coating. Remarkably, these SKCL green switches are extremely smooth. I was able to open up a switch on the board I basically destroyed (not one of the ones I'm selling) and it was very clean inside!

Here are some pics of the board I took apart.

It's pretty unique for a z150. The board has a neat copper taped metal shield on top of/around the mounting plate, and the top case has been sprayed by something that looks similar to the bottom of the top case on model F ATs - I don't know what the purpose of either of those things is, though. Additionally, the connector is very strange. Cindy told me that it's actually an AT protocol, but I don't have an AT cable I can replace it with to test them at all.

I paid a lot for these 4 boards because I figured it would be worth it if I could sell the switches; however, since I can't remove the switches, I just want to try and make back a small portion of what I paid, so I'm selling two of them "as is". The caps on both of them are mostly PBT, but there are a few caps that are ABS doubleshot caps - I'm guessing as replacement keys or something. Here are pics of the boards:

board #1 - $65 + shipping ($18 CONUS)

board #2 - $55 + shipping ($18 CONUS) - note logo has a scratch

I'm also selling a click modded salmon alps AT101 with Olivette keycaps if anyone is interested. I was hoping to get somewhere around $50 for it. Here's the imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/7kTr9

Let me know if you have any questions.

Just wanna say that looks awesome, another fantastic Zenith badge. They really knew their way around logos, didn't they? XD

They definitely look awesome! I think they'd be great for someone who would never remove the switches anyway! =)

Ugh nice, I'd love to get one. If only one had SKCL yellows and if it weren't for shipping. :( :|

I'd be interested in one if Andrew doesn't take both :)
These came from Zenith's line of Tempest PC's. Tempest was a set of standards developed by the US military to prevent the "baddies" from stealing information by intercepting emissions (EMR) from computer equipment.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempest_(codename)
IBM made similarly shielded equipment; i.e. EMR keyboard and TPC line of PC's.

Right, I remember seeing a EMR Model F XT here before. Cool stuff.

I remember you got that first one I found! Is it still working well? Does yours have this weird coating on all the switches?

I have not cleaned it yet

It is part of my ever growing backlog ... maybe I should find a more efficient method than cleaning every key with a toothbrush :D

Yeah, yours doesn't have it - you have the good one! If I remember right yours also has a normal 5-pin DIN connector on the end of it. Do you know if the protocol is AT or XT?

Yes, normal DIN connector. I suspect that, apart from the label colour, it is the same as the black label version.

If it's the same as the black label the protocol is something unique to the board. We have made converters though!

Really!? The last time I checked the converters that existed weren't perfected yet - kept skipping key strokes. I bought one from orihalcon but it would skip keystrokes every like 15th depression.

Just saying, if no-one wants the badges, I'll happily take them off you :D . It'd be a criminal offence to let those go to waste.

I couldn't find the post in the moment, but there is a form on here with firmware that works pretty well.

I actually have a project in mind for them. Expect a post on one of the projects soon =)
