But there is nothing wrong with protecting equipment when not in day-to-day use.

To appreciate the fine differences among the rich variety of model M keyboards, I rotate among several keyboard variants.

Oh wow nice. I should do something like that with my AR-15. How shined are the M13 caps by now?

Also neat knife, never seen one like that before.

Opinel knife, the one true French classic knife if there is one, very nice!

(and I see an Italian classic from Europe's oldest gunmaker...)

This particular SSK has all one-piece caps. I've heard people say they are better, but I'm not sure if I can tell.

They're nice and level. Which is better. Mine aren't, which really shows in this shot:

Eh, in day-to-day usage I don't think I'd personally mind. I do like that it will make key caps harder to lose though. :P

After having taken a better look at the 1397681's label, I noticed that its birth date was 9/11/91, which is significant not just because of the month/day (for obvious reasons), but also because my first Model M 1391401 was also made on 9/11, albeit two years earlier. An interesting coincidence! :o

Anyhow, I'm glad I was able to get an SSK that was this young and had a gray label, the springs feel very crisp.

This is its current setup, inspired by that of Mu's Kishsaver:

Red white and Mu! I definitely prefer it over full RGB mods. Something about green shifts doesn't appeal to me. Not on an SSK anyway. The grey shifts work better.

Had no idea this club existed since I am relatively new here! :)

Here is my IBM Model M Industrial SSK from 1992

I've got my hands on this beauty for a couple of days. What a great board. I can't imagine it replacing my everyday board, but nevertheless. Although I do have some problems with buckling springs switches, typing at higher WPM (~120) for extended period of time gives me a slight buzz in the fingertips, I'm guessing it's due to the vibration the switches transfer over to keycaps. It's really only noticable at higher typing speeds and after a while, but still. Typing experience wise, I prefer model F over SSK/model M, but form factor and design puts SSK easily in top tier for me. SSK is easily one of my favorite boards I've ever tried.

Here it is - screw modded, removable micro usb cable, custom controller installed. Housing and keycaps are in like-new condition.

(disregard cables, I had to make an improvisation with internal monitor usb hub because the cable was too short to reach back of the computer for me. also on the disregard list: the artisan, don't really care for it but it came with the board :P )

Very nice. Adding a custom controller is something I wanted to do until idollar's FSSK and Ellipse's Model F keyboards surfaced.
Which incidentally should be perfect for you if you prefer F but the form factor of the SSK. Have you taken a look?

workshop-f7/f-ssk-t10744.html

I also have a hub on the back of my monitor and I also attach my SSK like that :D
But I simply leave an active PS2 USB converter plugged in there. That way, I can quickly connect PS2 keyboards without crawling under the desk and without rebooting.

Yeah, maybe one day I'll reach for a FSSK, but right now I simply don't have time for that. It's really compelling to be honest and I wanted to try out model F and a SSK beforehand, which I only got a chance to do in past month.

Looks really lovely with those wheelwriter caps. They're so...clear.
Happy to hear it arrived well!

Oh, yeah, I get to join now! Unless having Lexmark branding disqualifies me...

Somehow that Lexmark logo fits better than the oval/Diagonal IBM logo.

Now if we could have an SSK with square logo...

Actually looks really nice with the Lexmark branding. Underneath is there an oval cut-out for the original IBM badge or is it a different top case entirely?

Will post my industrial again with different caps and one of my non-industrials

It appears to be an entirely different top case. The square logo is recessed into the case, making it flush with the top, which tells me that they machined the square hole (making it a different top case, imo) or cast it with the rectangular hole in there.

Dell, GTSI, and perhaps other brands took advantage of the rectangular labels as well.

I'm not willing to remove the label to find out, but if someone gets a cheap rectangular label Model M it might be worth taking a look.

This has been my daily driver for about eight years. Bought it off e-bay in 2009, before prices went up and off the rockers.

Although a battleship will soon replace it as daily driver, I AM going to use it, with a Bluetooth adapter, to properly type on my phone whenever someone talks to me on WhatsApp and stuff. Unless, of course, my other SSK takes that place (once it gets back to me).

Absolutely! Nice, I always liked the blue label SSKs. Possibly I should have kept my blue label/beige barrel SSK.

I have finally found the time to convert two of my three SSK's to ISO. Did a screw mod - and made a post about it in the Workshop thread. Love this keyboard!

(The media keys are from Unicomp and I am using adapters from Orihalcon)
