A beam spring is a major plot point in Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992). It leads to the main guy becoming invisible.

Hey, watch that coffee.

The last shot is from the preview, not the actual movie. It's not in the movie. I suppose they cut it out because it was too graphic. Too many keyboard lovers would cry seeing a beam spring in flames.

Here is an easier to stomach artist's reenactment pic for those averse to viewing gore. Just skip the previous post.

Whew. That helps... a bit. Now do a reenactment for the visually impaired. (...then for the mentally impaired  )

No, I don't think I'll ever get over seeing a beam spring in flames. I'll never get over Macho Grande either.

Another shot of a Model F from Space Mutiny via MST3K. Note the conspicuously absent IBM logo:

That beam spring explosion is rough. I put that up there with the needless destruction of the Lamborghini Miura in the beginning of the original Italian Job.

I probably posted this before, but here's an early terminal keyboard in The Thomas Crown Affair (1968).
The attachment Crown Burroughs sharp.jpg is no longer available
Burroughs Input and Display System 1967

Here's Steve McQueen, apparently prepared to fight anyone who wants to get at his keyboard:

And in case anybody cares, here's a shot of the layout of the keyboard:

I read in a manual for this terminal that it used Micro Switch switches (probably magnetic reed), but the font in this shot doesn't look like it. There were probably multiple versions from different suppliers, like most terminals/computers.

Here's a white label Model M in Chain Reaction (1996). Keanu Reeves is trying to shut down an overload.

Nice keyboard in the James Bond movie, The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).

Bond uses it to send sub targeting coordinates.

There are 2 keyboards used, but I thought they faked the closeup shot of the keyboard used by the other guy because they have identical worn engraved keycaps at 2, 3 and 6 - but no, this keyboard is missing the red COMP and CODE:

I'm not too thrilled about this guy's typing technique.

And here's a side shot:

I think it's the same keyboard but with the comp and code sticker and the "tracking system" label removed. Either way it's funny that they went back to record typing footage later.

Worried about a thick desk? Just build the keyboard into it

IBM did something similar with some of their terminals at some point I think. Pretty cool, as is the trackball and angled monitors.

I found this build of a replica of a computer w/ keyboard from Hackers (1995) on another forum. I actually loathe the movie (except for its music, which I love), but I think it's a pretty good replica build/case mod.
I was told (not in the video) that the Apple Keyboard II's controller board didn't work: which is why it got replaced with a Teensy++ 2.0 and not simply hooked up to an adaptor.

Model M in Stargate SG-1: Season 2, Episode 15 - "The Fifth Race". Seen around 16 and a half minutes in, during the scene where Jack O'Neill is entering new Stargate addresses into the computer.

This is my favorite TV show when I was a teenager! I remember watching every episode. And now I only remember some of the characters, and I probably don’t remember the plot, because I’ve watched so many different films. You should definitely watch this show again!

This has always been my favourite show (perhaps joined with Star Trek DS9 and TopGear). Being born in 1997, I'm literally as old as SG-1 and I don't remember a time not watching it. Today, I usually rewatch it all at least once every two years (more or less) though. Same with Atlantis too which I also love but perhaps a little less due to no (frequent) O'Neill, and both are due for a rewatch.

You can see Model Ms in the Stargate control room in many episodes.

I started watching Stargate SG-1 in 2007 when it got picked up by a "basic cable" channel over here. I wanted to check it out because a friend of mine who had died suddenly a couple of years before had been a really big fan. The show had inspired him so much that he had enrolled at a university course in Egyptology.
I had known him because we were also Star Wars fans. He had been active on comics message boards where he had befriended Star Wars comics authors and artists, so much that his board-name got included in a frame of a comic book as the name of one of several Jedi fallen during the Clone Wars.
However, as a sad coincidence ... the issue of the comic book got written and sent to the printers right before but got out into stores right after his abrupt death, making it much too timely.

Great! Because I somehow forgot the hobbies of those times when I was much younger. And even now there are so many TV shows that you just do not have time to watch everything that interests you. This is if it were not for working and doing nothing else at all, except watching films and TV series ... This is a dream!

Goofier still is how he's one-finger typing on it while staring at the keys from about 2ft away.

Then again, "goofy" is apt for this film. I love it.
