First off...heavy metal:

it opens!

hmmm what switches could it be?

white alps under an Alps branded protective membrane...interesting^^.
Sadly, the membrane does reduce the crisp tactile feel of the white alps considerably.

thoughts:
This is a tank. First thought: I can beat someone to death with it. After googling, it turns out I actually could. This sucker is designed to withstand 3G in use and up to 20G in storage position. The case is made from a cool aluminium alloy titled 6063-T6.
Thank you wikipedia:
Chemical composition

The alloy composition of 6063 is: [1]

Silicon minimum 0.2%, maximum 0.6% by weight
Iron no minimum, maximum 0.35%
Copper no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Manganese no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Magnesium minimum 0.45%, maximum 0.9%
Chromium no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Zinc no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Titanium no minimum, maximum 0.10%
Other elements no more than 0.05% each, 0.15% total
Remainder Aluminium
woot, titanium keyboard. Now i need the titanium caps to go with this board.

thoughts on it...this board is louder then my 1987 Model M. Love the clicky keys, though I don't like the way the spacebar feels. Not sure if I will keep this one, might throw this one on the market.

Great find!

Interesting to see that there exits a spill-proof mechanical keyboard.

Is it just keyboard and monitor or is it a complete computer?

ps: I hope you made sure no one stood underneth your window .... not that it slips down and ...

it would be a full computer, but I only have the case, flatscreen-monitor, and keyboard. Ive been daydreaming about modding it a little and building a mitx rig into this this... but that would be a good bit in the future, way too busy at the moment.

Funky layout on the GSE, how do the switches feel?
I wonder where that computer was designed to be placed, looks like it's made to military specs?

yep milspec of course. "rugged portable workstation"

switches feel great, tactile bump and click like a model m. Actuates a little tiny bit higher if im feeling this right. Only beef I have with this board is that the space bar tends to stick if hit off center. maybe some lube in the stabilizer will help.

What happened to the computer? The case seems large enough to fit one in...

good question. previous owner only had the case as it is.

i tend to believe the original owner had no interest in civilians snopping through the hard drives XD

That is actually a common aluminium alloy for machining. Not really exotic. A great material, though. I have done several trinkets in it, by hand, as I haven't had access to fancy machines.

You know now that you've got it, you're going to have to find somewhere that'll let you take the computer onto a G-Force centrifuge so you can see if it (or you) can work at 3G+

The first one is one of those boxes astronauts carry with them into the ship. I always thought their lunch was inside these.

What switch is that on the KPT?

ripster

KPTs.

Hah, I keed.

I think they were a clone labeled precursor to Alps Simplified 2s (XMs) but Ascaii would have to open up to confirm.

SPROING!

I know myself well enough to know I wont be opening the switches up...I weould lose half of it in an instant. By the way does anyone have 1 cherry clear spring they could send me? I took apart a clear switch and sproooooooooing, it was gone. :(

So...buy my keyboard and check yourself ;)

Considering I've been using BS and blues for the past few weeks I miss the tactility a lot. The ergonomic positioning of the hands is nice and I think I could get used to it if i force myself to. Fact is im simply too lazy to do that^^. They feel close to cherry blacks.

possible to replace them with cherrys? Should take a look at the PCB :D

Marquardt switches sadly do not age very well. For some reason they seem to be very open (hah- literally) to dust introducing the switch case. The ones on mine make nasty noises by now.

How feasible would it be to replace them with Cherry switches?
