So I daily a Focus 9000, but I tried a split ergo (Minidox) and, for basic typing, it's not as bad as it looks.

It's when I want to use stuff that I wouldn't find in the alpha block of a full-size that it becomes too complicated to be worth it imo.

Does anyone know anything about the cheap point-of-sale keyboards on AliExpress?

For example, this one is 13×6 grid for ca. $40.

The switches are MX-mount, actuation at 2±0.6 mm and 60±20 cN, rated for 12M cycles.

Model M with with weird terminal emulation keys. *I might have an extra Esc key for this board. Oh, and it includes a neat vintage IBM mouse.

Just like the one I picked up a couple years back. I've seen just a handful of these.

Amazing. Shame those three caps have broken stems. If I had the money I totally would get it (again, if it didn't have three broken stems lol).

Not only that it is also some some kind of typesetting system keyboard. I sort of have a mini collection of these types of boards. Too bad it's not in better shape.

it's near me unusually. would it be sacrilige to order a custom plate and rearrange the switches into a preonic layout? is it difficult to do a matrix scan on them?

I thought this was super interesting and picked one up. The one I got was literally only $1.99 + $15 shipping, so I figured why not.

I found out about this when I ran into this on ebay:

Burroughs adding machine. I know it's not the typical fair you see here, but the mechanisms are fascinating

Hhaha, if only I had the know-how. I do remember stumbling upon a website of a guy who turns actual typewriters into keyboards you can use with modern computers. This may be a job for him

Yea! That's the guy!

I may think about doing that for my IBM Selectric, but a couple of keys aren't working, so I gotta fix those first

Won a bid I wasn't really expecting to get its for an untested IBM PC 5140 with the brown ALPS. $175 was the winning bid which isn't a fantastic deal or anything just hoping the switches are in decent condition as I want to build a 60% - that said I'm a few switches short if anyone has spare browns or something close enough (orange, salmon, even white). *fingers crossed*
