This one's interesting, at least. Leading Edge 249-8546. Oak full-travel membrane switches. You can see the switch take-apart on this wiki page. Currently $150.
Oak? $150 is real XT money!

That brought up a thought. I don't think I've ever priced an XT computer, so I did a quick search on ebay sold ads. The lowest price for a working (not in great shape, but working) IBM 5160 with IBM monitor and Model F XT keyboard is around $400 US and shipping was $90. The most expensive keyboard-monitor-computer combo I saw was $1500.

The lowest price I saw for a working (not in great shape, but working) Model F XT keyboard was $203, not including shipping. The most expensive was a NIB for $450, with free shipping.

So, $150 is about 74% of a cheap XT keyboard or 30% of a cheap XT keyboard-monitor-computer combo. Assuming free shipping.

Sorry. I just turned Deskthority into r/theydidthemath :D

You are invading the forum with your post.
If you are so eager to sell, why didn't you ship when photekq bought them, instead of having him get a refund via PayPal?

What makes this keyboard interesting anyway? Keycaps? I remember buying 2 sets of these OG Cherry double shots for $25, it was about 2016 or so

I thought this was interesting. An eBay listing for a Model F122 metal upper cover and top screw fixing strip. Interestingly it’s an advanced order and the seller says the price may be high or low depending on their supplier price.

That's nice, because the one thing the F122 needs is to be heavier.

Wow, that's like embedding a Kickstarter into an Ebay listing... Kinda weird, the author is for sure reading this so it would be interesting to have the thread he mentions here to discuss the project.

I'm opened to anything that makes my keyboards even heavier if it's done in style.

Seriously, though, I'm not averse to a custom F122 top case which is more robust than the original. It would need a replica IBM badge, though.

An interesting idea, but I couldn't afford a large price tag.

And besides, I have been using my 122 without the top case shell for several years and very much prefer it this way.

If the metal top shell is quality good enough I think I'll pay, I always want to make the f122 to be a tank from an already one.

Yeah I’m not sure how your purchase is protected and it doesn’t sound like the price and details have been worked out.

Report the seller lol. Can't be using eBay to announce the possibility of a DT thread. No product, advertising off site sale, picture isn't the item described. Tons of shit wrong here and I highly doubt this project will ever materialize.

Yeah, it reminds me a little of a seller I tried to buy a PC from a few weeks back.

They listed a system with a bunch of great specs and a good price, so I used buy-it-now. Then a short while later I received a message from the seller asking me what my budget was and what I was looking for in a system (?!). I wrote back and said that I had just bought a complete system as the specs in the listing said, and their reply was that 'those specs were just to give the buyer ideas and were a suggestion of what a custom system could include'.

It was an outlandishly incorrect way to list something. And though a new seller might not have known better, this seller had been on eBay for a long time and had feedback numbering into the thousands. It boggled my mind that they would think that sort of listing would be ok.

Only rational explanation I can think of is: some customers really are that stupid, and go along with it.

Game theory would then suggest rational sellers should never leave money on the table, and just fish for the rubes while ignoring the rest of us. If they can get away with that, unpunished, then go right ahead.

I seldom touch eBay. Used it so little I’ve never even had a bad seller! So I honestly don’t know what the safeguards are you can trip to fall down on dodgy bastards the like of this.

If he has these listings setup as a physical item and you don’t get something you might be able to use some kind of purchase protection, but I’d definitely verify.

The right "target group" uses search words on eBay and this will pop-up. While not intended to use eBay like that (different story), it might work. The seller seems to have a decent review score. If he'd wanted to scam, it's more advisable to enter 280 dollars and a "buy now" button...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

It's simple, if you push that "seller" too much he may actually give it you at the price you bought it. However, 9 out of 10, the seller probably finds someone gullible enough to believe this and pay more. So the seller gets positive feedback always.

The same seller offering the F122 shell has a listing for a 5251 shell also. This one has a mock-up drawing of sorts at least. It will be interesting to see what comes of these.

Edit: Looks like that was mentioned above. Whoops. :-)

I was watching this auction and was surprised to see the selling price. I know it’s a great blue alps board but I didn’t think it commands such a high price. Is there something I’m missing here?

chyros said it's good = absurd price (even though it's still mediocre at best)
