That is really neat wiring great job!

Nice touch with the buzzer too :D

I love the buzzer as well. Just used a similar one in one of my projects. I wish it made a "click" noise though. Does such a component exist?

What about a solenoid with a clicker?

If you send only one pulse to a piezo-buzzer then it sounds a bit like a click. It is rather silent though.

Ah, so a "click" sound is what it's for....
BTW. There is a microcontroller board that is pin-compatible with the Pro Micro, and which has space for a buzzer. I had wondered why they put it there. :-þ

Pity the Proton is totally out of stock. It could be a very handy custom keyboard controller. Especially if I’m right in thinking it has a hand solderable USB breakout, so you don’t have to hack up awful bulky cables.

Routing USB cables is my least favourite step in hand wired keyboard building, if you didn’t guess already! Loathe that bit. There’s got to be a better way.

QMK has a pretty extensive "sound" library. I imagine that's the rationale for including the buzzer footprint on this proton board. I was aware of the proton but never knew it had this spot on it!

That's quite informative, with good pictures. Good stuff!

BTW, there is a 2u Ameoba board (OshPark) with footprint for 2u PCB-mounted stabilisers, so that you could stabilise that Space bar.
Edit (2019-09-10):
Keycapsss has the 2u Ameoba board. (Thanks, Bendim!)

It does. And the Elite-C has one too, but in pin order in about the same position.
All the ARM-based Teensies have USB breakout, but only pads: no through-hole.

There are extension cables/adaptors with sockets for panel-mounting, but all I've found so far have been "30 cm" long, which is just a too long for a keyboard.
Long ago I got a few 12.5 cm long adaptor cables from Mini plug to Micro B, and the sockets ends tend to be boxy and have a small hole, so I could at least build a box around one and secure it with a cable tie. I have not found similar cables with Type C unfortunately.

It looks like the proton is in stock at olkb

Sure. But the banner at the top…
There is currently a large backlog of orders. Click here to see the entire list of orders - new ones are placed at the end unless it's being merged with an existing one.

If you click on that you see a fairly long list of order numbers and a plea that the store is just one guy. Does that mean he’s tracking actual stock, or is this an automated holiday message? The fact it’s out of stock everywhere else suggests more people would come here to order it, making it less likely to still be around once you do reach the end of the order tree.

I have seen the 1u Amoeba at other places, but not the 2u other than on OshPark.
