Please suggest nominees for the Best vintage keyboard in 2015. This shouldn't be too rare, in that case use Best relic or discovery. What was the hottest vintage keyboard the past year? What vintage keyboard are you actually using? You have to give a short motivation for each suggestion.

By voting in the third round of this category, you can win a Hyper PCB collection with around 100 switches, a Teensy controller, plus more from 7bit!

The first round ends on Thursday 3 December, 00:00hrs UTC.

Current suggestions (this list is frequently updated):
  • Focus FK-2001 / 2002
  • NEC APC-H410/APH-H412 with blue ovals
  • Cherry MX 5000
  • IBM Space Saving Keyboard
  • Monterey K110/ SIIG MiniTouch
  • Regular IBM Model M
  • IBM 4704 series
  • Dolch keyboard

I'd like to nominate the Focus FK-2001 / 2002 for the best vintage keyboard. I think it deserves to be nominated because I now quite a few users here including myself like it a lot and use it as a daily driver. Here are a few links that illustrate this:

What, no love for the FK-5001? :)

Actually I'm only joking on that one. I would nominate the NEC APC-H412 with blue ovals before the FK-2001/5001.

No it's not that I don't like the FK-5001, but it's rare compared to the 2001 and therefore not that many people own and like one because they have not been able to find one. ;)

The 2001/2002 is lovely. Easily one of my favourite keyboards, shame I don't get the chance to use it more often.

I'll vote for it if it includes the original pre-Siig rebranding Monterey K110 name!

The regular (1391401 and such) Model M as well. Still seen as the "standard" mechanical keyboard to the outside world and still cheap enough anyone can afford one.

I'll second the NEC APC-H412 with blue ovals, and its brother the APC-H410.

I'll also second the Monterey K110/ SIIG MiniTouch. Mine has Matias Quiet Clicks now.

Honestly, the FK-5001 (if it's similar to the 9000) is *nifty* but has a lot going against it. The weird battery that corrodes and costs $20 to replace (locally). The bigass enter.

FK-5001 is basically the "old" 9000. Main obvious difference is the 9000 has LED windows in keycaps rather than on the top right and the 5001 uses a CR2032 rather than barrel battery.

I thought the big difference was that the 9000 allowed for some macro programming, whereas the 5001 didn't.

I was so excited when I got a used 9000, but the calculator was shot, then I realized I've grown insistent on ANSI layouts and a normal editing block, so I used it only briefly.

I nominate Dolch, I know many find it boring but I love it and there were times when it was the shit to have, way before Korean custom boards.

My only 4704 series is the 107-key variant, but they are awesome classics.
